I think this one might top Be The Cowboy for me idk that ending sequence with The Frost > Star > I'm Your Man > I Love Me After You kinda left me in shambles

The only one I really don't like is Bug Like An Angel but other than that this is like top 3 albums of 2023 for me :superman:

You're an angel, I'm a dog

Or you're a dog and I'm your man

You believe me like a god

I destroy you like a man

I'm sorry I'm the one you love

No one will ever love me like you again

So, when you leave, I should die

I deserve it, don't I???

1. Bury Me At Makeout Creek

2. Puberty 2

3. The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We

4. Be the Cowboy

5. Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (highly underrated)

6. Laurel Hell

7. Lush

:allears:

you're the closest to being correct cause these people leaving Bury Me out of their top 2 for BTC are trolling

GREAT album and I know it'll grow on me. Obsessed with the pinches of Americana sprinkled in on this record, honestly would have loved a little more of it in the record (even if others would've probably panned nn).

Be the Cowboy > Bury Me >/= The Land is Inhospitable > Laurel Hell > Puberty 2 > Retired from Sad > Lush

The Deal is one of the best things she has done IN HER ENTIRE CAREER

It's definitely one of the best albums of the year and I like that critics recognize it too, although Pitchfork's rating without BNM is annoying

OT: this thread is astonishingly quiet for a Mitski album thread

I like this album! I’m not very familiar with her work yet but I’ve been slowly getting into her.

This is really beautiful and an instant AOTY tie with Ocean Blvd

Still can't get over 'Buffalo Replaced, I really hope she taps more into its grunge/riot grrrrl sound for future albums since there've been songs of hers over the years that have a slight grunge undertone to me and I'd love it if she went there more.

The lyrics in this album :jonny: one of the best songwriters of her generation

In a decade where female singer songwriters, once misunderstood, are becoming recognised as The Greats (see: Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey), Mitski can’t be far behind. A disregard for the mainstream proves again to be Mitski’s strongest armour, as ‘The Land…’ becomes her most sonically interesting full-length yet.

Dork, 5/5

She's one of the main female singer-songwriters :clap3:

it's cute enough but very much a one listen kind of album, at least it's better than the last one but I think I'm over her :katie:

i wonder if she could score another viral hit with this album while every song is more on the melodic moody depressing orchestral pop / folkish side.. comparing to her past work with at least some uptempo bops...

I like the album but my only issue with it is the sound, not to be ironic. I feel like this wasn't really mixed or engineered properly. It sounds very compressed.

Listened to it 2 or 3 times, really easy to get into it. It clicked instantly with me, specially the second half. The Deal, My Love Mine All Mine, I'm Your Man and The Frost are clear standouts.
