Raptus Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 No. + baristas in USA look like ex- convicts fresh out of prison 1
Europe Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 In my city (Budapest) the baristas will act really rude towards you if you don't. You can get away with not tipping if you only get 1 drink but if you buy multiple rounds they will give you attitude when you go there the 2nd/3rd time. They pay attention.

It’s literally a couple bucks usually and the people who actually groan over this are so annoying Just click no if it bothers you that damn much Yeah, I don't think people understand it's likely just an attempt to adapt technology to the way customers used to be, even though it's not as smooth. Like the digital payment model likely actually hinders how often someone would tip, since in the US even for like convenience stories it's not odd to tip your change. My drink is $4.25 and I have a $5 bill? I'd toss the 75 cents into the tip jar. Someone gets a big order of multiple speciality items and their total is $18.50 and they pay with a $20? Again, a lot of people would toss the 2 singles and change in the tip jar just for the pleasantry of the service. No one is asking for like a 20% in any of these places. "Take a penny, leave a penny" is a thing too. 1
Sergi91 Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 It feels weird tipping people who already get paid to do their job.
rzal Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 i am not tipping after paying €10 for a coffee and a donut. or when i only get a donut and have to click no tip on that stupid screem. girl you literally did nothing i am not paying you extra. 1
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted July 23, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted July 23, 2023 If I go to a local coffee shop and the workers recognize me and make my order without me even asking - then yes! They deserve it! If I go to Starbucks? No! 1
flower moon Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 absolutely not. not anywhere. it only encourages tipping culture and employers to not pay their employees well.
SLIME Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 You don't have to. You might want to mind that they probably don't make a lot and they would appreciate the gesture.
Breathe On Moi Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 only if an exceptional job was done, think about it this way….if the barista does an absolute terrible job and is rude, does the food/coffee end up costing less money because of that? nope, so there you go.

I did barista shifts in Paris where I was so taken aback by getting tipped that I would return it
Cheers Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 Are we talking about the Starbucks baristas? Personally, I do not
Rotunda Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I almost always tip but there’s this one Starbucks barista who deliberately works extremely slow who I won’t tip.
toxicgenie Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 if they're very pleasant yeah I tip. just the min option tho.

Hungary gives strong "i'm not like other european girls" energy since like 2020 huh
BGKC Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I read the room and tip based on how busy they may be. If it’s obviously pure chaos full of shitty/needy customers then yea, I’ll tip 20%.
Gladiator Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Every cafe I go to now has an option to tip (except Dunkin, if you count that as a proper cafe) and I have never used it. Edited July 25, 2023 by Gladiator
