SoldierofLove Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) Is pushing this rumour some kind of tactic against the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike? Like, boo hoo we’re so poor we can’t afford to pay you so we need to sell the company. Edited July 17, 2023 by SoldierofLove 1
Mr. Mendes Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 This is not going to happen and has been repeatedly shot down every single time this becomes a suggestion that floats around in the ether. Disney is one of the most ferociously independent companies out there and have fought many times against being taken over. They're currently embroiled in a battle in Florida to maintain their independence. There is absolutely zero chance they would ever even consider allowing this to happen. If you don't believe that, I beg you to research the history of this company. 1
Valentine Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Bring this back pls No seriously this is a terrible idea 1

Why would they need to sell the entire thing? they'd sell it for parts like another user mentioned. it'd be pretty extreme for a hugely known brand like disney as you say, but all media companies right now are eyeing mergers for a big payday given the state of theatrical and streaming. david zaslav was specifically hired to bring warner brothers out of debt in order to get it into shape for a sale. hulu, peacock, viacom/paramount+, lionsgate, probably other mid size streamers and studios i'm not thinking of will probably all be absorbed in the next few years. ot: this isn't a new rumor. iger was asked about it and denied it was happening in november of last year (https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2022-11-28/iger-wont-sell-disney-apple-town-hall-shake-up-chapek-hiring-freeze) but doesn't mean it won't ever happen. there's also deep history because steve jobs was one of the founders of pixar and then became part of the disney board when disney acquired them.
fauxtography Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Whew we're truly entering a new stage of capitalism. Kroger buying Albertsons, Microsoft and Sony buying gaming studios, Apple buying Disney, Netflix potentially buying Paramount....I can't 1

Onyxmage Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 The fact that they welcomed this LOSER back with open arms after he botched the Fox network and other acquisitions just proves that Disney is a JOKE. Cant wait to see them go down in flames.

Workers get paid the same LOW WAGES whether the company makes a few billion more or less per year. 1 1
Starshine Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Apple rarely buys established giants. It's not really their move to pull a Microsoft and buy a company of that stature, especially ******* Disney for $160 billion. Their biggest acquisition was Beats for $3 billion which is... nothing to them.

Foldable screen technology hasn’t been perfected (the plastic film that goes over it peels off within months). neither is the under the camera display (it reduces the front camera quality and makes it difficult for face id to work). hence why they haven’t done it yet. apple wait until its perfected. Apple Vision Pro is already quite innovative. Just wait until a 3-4 years when they improve battery life and make it more affordable for the average consumer, just like they did with the iphone 1 thru iphone 4/5. 2
Cesar Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 IMO i can see them buying the tv/movie production for apple TV but definitely not the theme parks/hotels/cruise liners.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 17, 2023 Author Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) Remember during the pandemic where every fourtune 500 Compny CEO “mysteriously” got several times wealthier. And the number of Billionaires before 2020 nearly doubled worldwide 💀😭 and how all these Movie studios are casually dropping $200M on every blockbuster, even tho just several years ago most blockbuster’s we’re barely $125M (I know Covid and reshoots are expensive, but $300M for multiple movies is absurd.) there gotta be some Massive money laundering scheme or something going on. I’m starting to believe people that say the Middle class is going to be dead in a few years. Edited July 17, 2023 by Gorjesspazze9

Yeah I feel like the Apple vision pro is gonna usher in a new era. Like that eye tracing and hand movements looks so futuristic like some type of Ironman tech😆 but it’s like already here. Holograms will be hitting the mainstream market soon too

They are 2 of the most safe brands on the planet. Maybe with Apple in charge, we can finally have some decent LGBT+ representations out of Disney.
Mr. Mendes Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 At absolute most they’d license streaming rights to Apple TV and phase out Disney+ but even that is a huge stretch. No way in hell the whole company gets sold and no way in hell Apple wants to get involved in the theme park and cruise business.

And it's also a matter of manufacturing yields. It's very difficult to manufacture 200 million premium phones with cutting edge tech (even if it's ready), other OEMs don't have the luxury to worry about that as they sell a fraction of that. Vision Pro is the most advanced computing device and it can only yield <300k next year.
Zoomer Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 I knew their recent movies have been underperforming for a while now, but damn is it THAT bad?
