qurl Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 kinda hate it tbh. the amount of times i’ve posted something like ….. genuinely innocuous and here come some humorless dingbat clicking “THUMBS DOWN!!!!1111!!1!!!!” instead of articulating why they don’t like it ….. i don’t like that !!!! what do y’all think ? react with words plz 1 2 15
Indie Go Mind Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 Personally there are times I don't wanna engage in a long discussion but still wanna show my disapproval of the post so a thumbs down is more than enough for me. 8 3
Galaxy Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I'm ok with "Like" and "Thumbs Down" but I'm not really feeling "Haha" and "Thanks". They seem a bit Facebook'd 1
MingYouToo Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 not. a notoriety alert could be good, like something that if liked enough gets highlighted on the thread like a gold or glow sign or something to highlight if a post is something of interest, whether its ragebait, information or just something funny. the worst part about like dislilke is that an opinion could be made innocuous or say, an objective fact, but if a stanbase with lots of active users dislike that statement can still downvote it to hell and back. i dont like it.
shookspeare Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I never go back to look at my posts so I find the feature useless. i haven't used it once
byzantium Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 It’s nice to have a way to show disapproval of something without having to engage with a troll. 5
elevate Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I generally like it because there's a lot of posts that are either humorous or interesting but I also can't be bothered quoting people, so a nice laugh / like reaction is great. I only use the dislike on really obnoxious posts, usually sexist or homophobic ones. I did have someone give me a dislike yesterday on a post I made expressing fairly mild disapproval of an Ariana song, so I can see how it would discourage participation as well. The downside is that I think some people would enjoy the dislikes because it validates their trolling. 2
Rotunda Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 It makes more sense to just thumbs up a post than quote reply “same” or “‘that’s what I was gonna say”. 1
HeavyMetalAura Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I’m reading to get a lot of thumbs-down for this, but… for those who say that the thumbs-down function is a nice way to show disapproval quickly, that’s fine for some light stan shade against your fave. but if you’re doing it against a post about politics or sociology or culture, to me it just says “I’m too unintelligent to articulate a valid counterpoint” or “you’re right, and I can’t argue it, and that makes me angry because it means I’m wrong.” 1

LustSpell Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 (edited) Don't like it that much! But it's never not funny when you see one ***** downvoting an entire thread because it's dragging their fave or something. You can tell they're bothered Always see it in Taylor threads. But it does discourage discussion of a topic by dogpiling if a large majority of people just downvote and don't actually respond to the post Edited July 14, 2023 by LustSpell 1 1
Big Bad Wolf Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I think it's fine, but mods should refine it. We need more reactions, and notifications should state the reaction that was given.
Gladiator Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 (edited) If I think a post is funny and it makes me laugh, I react with a haha. If I really like a post, I react with a like. If someone said something I was going to say about a usual serious topic, I'll reply with a thanks. I don't use thumbs down. I find it kind of unnecessary to dislike a post when I can just go on with my day or reply to it. Edited July 14, 2023 by Gladiator
DamianSolo Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I think it helps feed into a quiet, yet noticeable, type of toxicity—especially when it relates to fair, honest and respectful thoughts and opinions being given a "Thumbs Down." It doesn't necessarily benefit anyone, per se, unless used positively. I find "Haha" and "Thanks" useful, since some posts don't require an actual response but it still enables you to positively acknowledge a user's post. It's too easy to give a user's post a "Thumbs Down." People can be salty and use it negatively just for the sake of it, even if they're reacting to the simplest and most logical post. I don't feel as though it offers anything that enriches anyone's experience on here, which should be the ultimate goal in introducing such features. I think a system more like Reddit's would be more fair, with posts actually rising or decreasing in rank in any given thread—based on reactions. It would make it less personal and thus less likely to be used arbitrarily.
Theshigo Washidu Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I like it. As others have said, the thanks/like button is useful for agreeing with someone's post, but not wanting to partake in the discussion simply because you agree or don't have anything to share. I LOVE the groan/disagree button.
deal dough Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 sometimes it can be funny but i can see it conditioning ppl into making the most lukewarm takes possible
