Even though we don’t call it “Ang Pilipinas”, the article dates back to Spanish colonization when we are called Las Islas Filipinas which just translates to The Philippine Islands (the original name of BPI is literally Banco de las Islas Filipinas)and then subsequently Islands is dropped to just The Philippines. OT. It is really fitting for the El Niño season here in the Philippines.
