Door Dash driver says "f**k you" to customer after $5 tip for $20 pizza

We need to get rid of tipping culture. Servers and delivery drivers need to actually do work if they deserve tips! They only do the absolute bare minimum

da average wage for a tipped employee is from $2-$3 here in da US

i was a server for several years and my hourly rate was $2.13

honestly if u can't afford to tip ur server, bartender properly, don't go out to eat or drink, stay home, but kno u must tip if u get food delivered

i'm not defending dat door dasher, they were in da wrong and deserve to be fired

No it’s not a must!!! Just as you tell me to stay at home, I can also tell you to look for another job. Stop making someone else responsible of your wage. It’s yours and your employer’s problem

No you can’t also tell them to look for another job. At that point nobody would be working in the service industry and you would have no choice but to go pick up your food, liquor or groceries. At that point you would crave the convenience of having another human being doing those things for you. It’s giving you want slavery back.

The fact that you compare a waiter expecting a tip from me to slavery… it’s just another reason why people like you f’ed up the world. The fact that people like you feel that anyone should feel obligated to tip waiters, it’s just so wrong. I don’t have to and I won’t unless I feel like it. Simple as that. Being a waiter is no different to doing any other jobs and I’m not expecting tips for my services. So if you are not happy with your wage, yes you look for another job and that’s normal. You don’t expect someone else to top up your wage. Your mentality is just wrong.

I swear I will never understand tipping culture. Not even the version where, in certain other countries, people willingly tip if the service is good, whatever that even means. :ace:

It's the waiters' job to provide a good service to the customers in the first place.

Paying them an extra for doing what they are supposed to do and not treating people poorly is...illogical?

It's the equivalent of me (or anybody else, literally) asking my boss for an extra everytime I don't f*** up at work lol.

It is not their job to be nice, it’s to serve you. If you go to countries where there’s no tipping culture you notice the difference.

Again, they have a wage for that. I’m not responsible to help them get paid better. That is on their employer.

Lol. Working in customer service means you don’t have to be nice? Lololol, then yeah these people do deserve the wages they get

Retail and food service workers are “nice” because of commission and tips that’s what started the “customer is always right” culture. That’s why when Americans go to European countries they think everyone is rude, because they’re just performing their duties and not acting like you’re the most important person in the room.

So glad I live in UK.

Service charge is sometimes added onto nicer meals but to automatically expect a tip is ridiculous. Pay your staff better.

I'm a nurse in healthcare and cannot imagine someone tipping me for treating them, let alone expecting a tip for putting a meal on a table :deadbanana2:

This is such a silly, poorly thought out take. If people stopped working in the service industry because of poor pay/tipping, maybe, just MAYBE, that would incentivise change and allow for better pay. :skull:
Its giving you've settled for the worst outcome.

Their job is to treat the customer with respect and hospitality aka being nice. I'm from one of those countries with absolute no tipping culture and I can guarantee you that employers don't know what to do with rude employees scaring the customers away. Their goal is attract people and make money, not the opposite.

And, again, why are we appliying this logic to waiters only? What about every other job out there?

The fact that they demand 25% in tips just for bringing the food from the kitchen to us is insane. If required, i’d rather tips go to the cooks as they are the ones that put in the effort and required skills to prepare our meal.

You constantly with your straw men arguments - that is NOT what that poster said.

Telling people what they say reveals about themselves is not a "straw man" because I'm not making an argument to begin with. i'm making a judgement about who they've just revealed themselves to be.

Yes, if you act disgusted at the idea that a homeless person at any point could ask you for money, let alone because you think it's THEIR OWN FAULT THEY'RE HOMELESS, you're a terrible human being who hates poor people. Period.

If you feel disgusted or become enraged over people expecting a tip because you've decided THEY DESERVE MISTREATMENT FOR BEING A FOOD SERVICE WORKER, again, YOU ARE A TERRIBLE HUMAN BEING. PERIOD.

I don’t know how old you are but you act like a 2 years old. Thank God I don’t live near anyone like you. I never said I had anything against homeless people and waiters. I just said I am not obligated to give out money as if it was nothing to EVERYONE. I was just comparing the situations because you expect me to just tip people as if that’s the only way I could go to a restaurant. The fact that you continue to act like you don’t have a brain twisting everything I have said. I only said I am disgusted by people like you who normalise the idea of paying a certain amount of money as a tip to a waiter as if it’s my problem they have a bad paid job. It’s their job to serve customers, I don’t have to pay them extra for that. Go get a life please

It’s giving disgusting behaviour. The fact that I should be worried if I don’t have enough money to tip someone but I can pay for a meal, I would probably get a slap in the face and a **** off.

We are probably living during the worst generations. Everyone is entitled to everything. Entitled to opinions and more money (without actually working hard for it)

If anything I’d probably give that money to a homeless person or for charity rather than tipping entitled waiters who treat me like **** if I don’t. They deserve what they get with an attitude like yours or the one’s in the OP.

i work my ass off in customer service every day , serving people (because serving customers doesn’t only mean being a waiter) and I don’t expect or want any tips.

Then keep your ass home or go pick up your own food. It's truly just that simple. :michael:

No, I can go to a restaurant if I want as well. I don’t go to a restaurant thinking I should have enough money to tip a waiter. In all honesty I barely go to one, only on special occasions, but if I do, I leave tips when I feel like it not because the waiter may or may not have a shitty wage. It doesn’t concern me and it shouldn’t concern you if I choose to go to a restaurant or not.

also you quoting only specific words of a whole paragraph only shows you choose to read what you disagree with. You’re in the wrong either way, grow up.

The tip culture apologists here :deadbanana4:

It’s not like restaurant prices are cheap to begin with. They already include a certain percentage of the waiter’s salary. Again, it’s not a customer’s fault the salaries are embarrassingly low. You don’t tip nurses, you don’t tip pilots. Why in the world do you have to tip restaurant/food delivery workers? :skull: If you want to tip, that’s fine. But those who don’t really shouldn’t be judged.
