By the Water Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 (edited) Swift released Fearless (Taylor’s Version), the first album in her re-recording project, on Apr. 9, 2021. Since that date, the new version of her sophomore album has earned 1.81 million equivalent album units, according to Luminate, while the 2008 version of Fearless has earned 535,000 equivalent album units over the same time period – meaning that, since Fearless (Taylor’s Version) was unveiled, it’s earned more than 3 times as many units as the original. Red (Taylor’s Version) has done even better: since its release on Nov. 12, 2021, the re-recording has earned 3.32 million equivalent album units, compared to 390,000 units for the original Red during that same time period. As Red (Taylor’s Version) continues accruing sales and streams – the album sits at No. 25 on this week’s Billboard 200, in fact – Swift’s second re-recorded album will close in on an equivalent album units number that’s 10 times as great as the total for the original Red since its release. Perhaps the most stark disparity in the performance of the original Swift albums and the Taylor’s Version re-records since their releases is in the number of fans who are actually buying the full-lengths. Since its April 2021 release, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) has sold 737,000 copies, compared to 41,000 copies of Fearless over that time period. Meanwhile, Red (Taylor’s Version) is approaching the 1 million mark in total sales, with 950,000 copies moved since its release – compared to 45,000 in sales for the 2012 Red over the same time period. In other words, beginning on Nov. 12, 2021, for every 1 person who has purchased the original version of Red, about 21 people have picked up Red (Taylor’s Version). https://www.billboard.com/lists/taylor-swift-taylors-version-stats-chart-numbers/the-equivalent-album-units-gap/ Edited July 6, 2023 by By the Water 1
byzantium Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 (edited) Wow, this means RED TV was the second biggest female album released in 2021 and RED (across all albums) as crossed about 11 million units. Insane. Also Fearless (across all albums) is at around 13 million units. Edited July 6, 2023 by byzantium 4
FolkLover1989 Posted July 6, 2023 Posted July 6, 2023 The biggest takeaway here is even without TVs those albums were moving lot of units BB again came with receipt that destroyed all OTHs theories
