It's basically which one of their releases is their best seller. Overall, second albums surprisingly do better despite the supposed "sophomore" slump...

I think it also might be a factor of this list focusing on the most successful MPGs and not all of them.  More successful artist are more likely to peak in later eras.

It's still a telling sample - first album is typically for exposure and second album is usually for building upon first.

This might just be because artists who have sophomore slumps and don’t recover aren’t being talked about enough to have their sales analyzed

I don't think this factors in a lot of things.

Arguably LOUD or even ANTI could be seen as bigger than GGGB.

Same could be said for BEYONCE and other more recent albums? IDK I could be wrong

I think this has its merits but due to the shifting nature of the industry (particularly sales) I agree that this doesn’t paint the full picture. Rih and Bey defo aren’t defined by their third era alone but it shows us that their sales kept growing and they then achieved further longevity in their second decade so :clap3:

Isn’t Madonna’s bestselling album True Blue, her third?

Why though? By most metrics GGGB was the much bigger album

Demi’s 6th album Tell Me You Love Me is her biggest selling

I don’t think this matters too much, but it is interesting nonetheless. :clap3:

Hmm I initially didn’t want to do artists that debuted before 1980 given how the nature of the industry changed, but it might be interesting to see.  Cher, Dolly, Aretha, and Barbara all probably peaked with their 20th+ album.  I’ll update when I have some time to sit down and figure that out.
