The thing is the actual owner promised her the the property (it‘s a former convent so given her Christian roots it could’ve been personal to her) and only the nuns, who only lived there, suddenly decided they were against it and tried to sell it themselves (which of course wasn’t legal hence the court case).

It was a massive piece of land in the middle of LA with 360 degree views, the value of the covent itself was negligible comparatively. If it was a house instead it would’ve been 10x more expensive.
