Kummercell Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 I hate it when my family says it near me because I know they're trying to sound respectful, but it just sounds so unnatural just say "gay"
byzantium Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 It feels like a science term that is not meant to be liked/not liked. Like do you like the term homo sapien or vertebrae? 1
Sheep Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 In a clinical or academic context? Yes, its the best term to use since even gay can encompass people of several sexual or even gender identities. In every day language? It's intentionally dehumanizing. gay men or gay women or gay people are all more natural terms to use. 3

Zeferino Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 I’m a home of sexual maybe it sounds weird bc it’s Greek?
Illuminati Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 It's better than the f slur equivalents that I'm used to hearing
Aston Martin Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 (edited) I think it's a good descriptor of the sexual orientation, but I don't like using it or hearing someone use it to describe a person. Good use of the word: The claim that homosexual behavior is unnatural has been thoroughly debunked in several different fields of science. Bad use of the word: Johnny is a homosexual. Johnny is gay sounds better to me for some reason (or you just don't mention hypothetical Johnny's sexuality in the first place because it's no one else's business but his lol). NoOneDiesFromLove Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 It’s like when someone calls you by your full name
Attaboy Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 I like using it when I’m talking **** about other gays
The Next Day Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 (edited) As a noun it just sounds bad, nobody would say "He's a heterosexual" in a non-shady way, so why would homosexual be different. I wouldn't even use it as an adjective, although funnily enough I sometimes differentiate between "straight people" and heterosexual people because they're not always the same... AvadaKedavra Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 In spanish is very harsh-sounding and almost offensive. Definitely no. I prefer Gay
