wowsignal14 Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 i was born and raised muslim. i grew up in a fairly religious and conservative household where even music is considered a sin. i even dod the pilgrimage to mecca with my family at age 15. that was around the age i started losing my faith. i left islam at around age 16. considered myself a deist for a year or two but I've been a raging agnostic my whole adult life. it's really hard especially living with my family who pray five times a day and insert religion in everything. they don't know I'm not Muslim anymore but they know I don't pray anymore and it always causes fights between us
JoeAg Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 the photo in the OP wtf uhmmm idk actually. I grew up v jewish (i got that good classic east coast jewish mother's family LAWL!) but at this point i'm gearing more towards agnostic. i will say I think Yom Kippur is an extremely poignant holiday and I can take it away from a solely jewish context. it's about renewal. fasting that whole day and cleansing yourself from the year feels just... so right on. so I'll celebrate Yom Kippur for the long term future I think. other than that, I vibe with Hanukkah and Passover too, but otherwise I'm very removed from judaism. idk. my religious beliefs are still developing but agnostic feels most right. idk I love writing songs about this. I'm kinda over organized religion yet those aforementioned three holidays will stick with me if not for practicing than just for symbolism. it's complicated!
JoeAg Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 sooo... agnostic with a few residual jewish elements is what sounds right. I've never kept kosher btw, I was raised reform jewish (yet still pretty religious)
SoulKiwi Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 (edited) Raised in a “Catholic” household, but we only went to church when my dad was deployed overseas, and didn’t really discuss religion. Mostly, my parents let me freely explore my beliefs. I’m currently an atheist and have been since I was 14. As of now, I can’t believe in or justify the existence of a higher power given what I know, but don’t begrudge others who find security and sense in one. Sometimes I wish I could believe in God, but I simply can’t. Edited June 30, 2023 by SoulKiwi
Fevesy Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 No, I'm not. The funny story is that everyone in my family is catholic.. my mother, father, and all their siblings. All my cousins around my age were baptized and the same with my younger sisters and brother. They all went to catholic schools whereas I was just left out, did not get baptized, and went to a non-catholic school 1

LustSpell Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Grew up Christian and went to church three times a week until I was 11. I despise anything to do with religion with the self-hate it brought onto me as a gay man. Getting rid of it was one of the most positive things in my life
Theshigo Washidu Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 I used to be religious but not anymore. I am now agnostic.
Embustera Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Yes, converted to Islam and life is much better now.

So I tend to identify as Christian first, Catholic second. I find Pentecostalism really inspiring, for example. Well how come you don't go to a Pentecostal church? I'm sure you will like it more than the catholic church, maybe?
OnikaSlays Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 i’m more spiritual than anything. i definitely think there is a god or “universe” guiding us, but i don’t believe in any religious teachings… if that makes sense.
