Big Bad Wolf Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Hi, I'm sad and one of my favorite comfort movies to watch is Closer with Natalie Portman because it pretty much hits every base for me. But I know it like the back of my hand, so are there any other sad romance/drama movies like it you would suggest?

uusagii Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Holy ****, I came in here to say Closer - it's more of a subtle sort of sadness that highlights the hopelessness of modern relationships You should try the South Korean film Burning if you haven't seen it already. It's a slow-burner, and it really isn't for everybody, but it's a rewarding experience if you sit with it until the end
suburbannature Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Do you want straight-up depressing or more melancholy? Lost in Translation is a slow burn masterpiece.

I live for the ending scene, just her being beautiful and walking in NYC. That's a bad *****!

I think people have the complexity of having entirely different behaviors based on who they are with, taking on more dominant or submissive roles with each. So I see a little bit of myself in all of them. But I definitely resonated more with Alice and Dan. Dan's need for "truth", Alice's codependency....but Alice also showcases such strength and restraint for me as well. She's so Lana coded so I stan but for real one of my personal favorite performances in film ever. 1
