Have you ever lost a pendrive/sensitive documents?

I seem to have misplaced a USB drive of mine that had digital scans of my passport and government IDs :cries2: To be clear, no passwords, and a lot of things require my phone number verification (esp. the govt. IDs) but a lot of personally identifiable information, and information about some family members too...including one passport scan :deadbanana4: All physical original copies are with me and the concerned parties, though.

I just don't know what to do, I have copies of all the documents, that's not the issue - I just am so scared someone will use it to do something. I mean, if it fell on the ******* street/road, it may have been damaged and most people would not even insert a random USB off the ground into their systems. If it is somewhere in the house (possibly) then, well, it is safe...

Have you ever had something like this happen to you? Did anything ever end up happening?

I have really bad mental health and though this will sound very unserious right now, this has actually brought back immense suicidal ideation for the past two days. A lot was already happening in my life, and this 'minor' thing has had me in a spiral. What do I do?

i once lost an SD card which had hundreds of pics of me on it including nudes :rip: I was so scared but nothing ever turned up .

No, but someone in Finance in my previous job got a usb drive stolen from their car with the bank account numbers from hundreds of employees, including mine. We all had to close our bank account and open a new one. They gave us identity theft monitoring for free for 2 years.

One time my flashdrive broke in the middle of the semester and I ended up having to re-do a bunch of papers I had already started. :rip: I switched to a cloud service ever since.

Not really sensitive, but all my old college essays were saved on a Gmail account that no longer exists. I really enjoyed writing those essays and they meant a lot to me and was planning on referring to them again if I ever applied for grad school.

I lost a USB with the code of one of the internal software we developed and used at work but it's also their fault cause they refused to put it on a repo in the first place nnn

It didn't have a massive impact though in the long run. They just redeveloped it from scratch and made it way better in the end.

Earlier this year, my USB drive broke, however I was able to salvage 90% of what was on there through this data recovery service I paid £50 for.

I had to buy a new USB drive and transfer the data onto that afterwards.
