commander Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I've seen more and more people using atrl/stan Twitter slang on social media on a regular basis. Is this the case at all? https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM2Bj3DUa/
onapearl Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I've been seeing people outside the stan sphere saying "receipts" for a while now. And then other people ask "where does that come from? What does that even mean?" And then I have to come in and explain that it comes from that one Whitney Houston interview Idk, I think it's already mainstream, at least online.
Jotham Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 It's been mainstream for a while now. I miss the old days when I would only hear words like "stan" and "shade" from this website tbh.
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted June 14, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted June 14, 2023 My first day of work in my current job involved me explaining what "tea" was to a straight man because someone said it in a meeting and he didn't understand it. It's definitely becoming mainstream.
Namie-Knowles Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) ...San lingo. Y'all are something else lmao. The absolute irony in the questions being asked. When the people here appropriated the speaking styles and slangs of Black people whether that be women or Queer Black people. Now that y'all are done riding it now it's the rest of the worlds turn. It's how it goes unfortunately. Edited June 14, 2023 by Namie-Knowles 3
Alldeezy Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Its been like that since the 2000s! the way before i edited i noticed like 3 people with the username evermore enter.. Sadly Evermore was before Taytay
Orsay Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) there's so much lingo I remember seeing on here as early as like 2010 that I never saw on any mainstream social media site til at least 2014 and is now commonplace stuff like sis, tea, drag, shade etc (all originating from black women/LGBT) was not commonplace internet lingo in the early 2010s Edited June 14, 2023 by Orsay 1
Fastlane Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I've heard two or three times phrases like “I'm in my flop era” and “I'm in my Teenage Dream era” (in terms of success in every life direction, I guess).
smartalek22 Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I was in a conference two days ago and some girl was said ‘slay’
BOOMBAYAH Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Stan/gay lingo that’s intertwined/originated from AAVE usually becomes mainstream because of how black culture is seen as cool by the masses. More purely gay lingo usually stays in gay/stan circles. 1
helpthomas Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 not really ”stan lingo” per se but, i heard two very regular shmegular colleagues say ”ended him” and ”great gowns” the other day and when i chuckled and asked them how they know about these phrases they just answered with TikTok
Gorjesspazze9 Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Being chronically online is becoming increasingly common
Yawn Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 “it’s giving ____” and “in my _____ era” is breaking out in the mainstream currently, i notice

I guarantee you no soul has never uttered those words outside of these walls
Kiss It Better Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 yes because why i saw a 'straight' man using "slayy queen" "yaaaasss" on their ig stories when they saw Beyonce
arceus Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 language doesnt belong to a certain country, tribe, race, sexuality, or gender its universal

imabadkid Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 yeah it’s been mainstream for a while… I remember in like 2012 hearing someone say stan lingo and it was jarring but it’s the norm nowadays. It’s still kinda cringy but oh well
Afterglow Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Stan lingo? This is black culture and we all know it. 2 1
