The problem has layers.

While corporate pride isn't great, it showed that being openly pro-gay was better business than being neutral or against it, but now with how aggressive homophobes are getting it is causing situations like this which is sending hate groups the message that violence and pressure works which will embolden them.

Trust that it won't stop with big retailers.
Don't like that your local library has a rainbow flag? Stand outside with your guns and scream about groomers.
Don't like that your school has a gay teacher? Just get a facebook group together of local "concerned" parents and harass school admin with claims they hired a ped0.

The main criticism is how big corporation like Target and Starbucks never truly care about LGBTQ+ people in the first place even before the rise of harassment from crazy right wingers this year. They only "celebrate" it because they can capatalize it for their brand for a month and stop doing it after Pride month is over

Small business is where it's at boo.

I stopped supporting mine because they got even more expensive than Starbucks. So I just make my own coffee. I always try to support local businesses, but they unfortunately get more expensive than the large companies for obvious reasons.
