So I’ve been talking to this amazing and cute guy I met on an app for a few weeks now. We’re both looking for something serious.

He’s asked me out so we can meet in person for the first time, but there’s something that has really been bothering me and I don’t know how to address it with him. He bears the same first name as me. It’s an ethnic and uncommon name, which makes things even more weird.

I know this may sound silly, but I have a very uneasy feeling about it. I cannot  not think that if we do end up dating, it would be super weird that we have the same name. Has anyone experienced something similar?

When I was in college, people kept getting me and another guy mixed up because we had the same first and last name. I was a writer for our university newspaper and he played football. We met,  and we actually became lovers. When we got a place together, we had to ensure that all mail included our middle names. We broke up after graduation due to finding jobs in different places. He was my first love and my only true love.

My name is a very common name among latinos so the chances of it happening is probably high but that would mean my bf, father, grandfather, some cousins AND myself would all share the same name and it would be a mess at things like family events or parties :dies:

But if you really like him it shouldn't be the big deal breaker, maybe have nicknames for each other? I have a nick name solely because of that. Growing up there was always multiple kids in my class every year with the same name so since an early age I've gone by a nick name.

So personally, if I liked someone and we happen to have the same name, I think we could try to work around it if we really clicked.

Hope it goes well for you, whatever you decide :celestial2:

It’s a little weird but if I really liked someone I wouldn’t end it over that

who cares, it's just a name :rip: i know we say follow your instinct but finding a happy relationship is hard, do you really want to throw away something good because of the other person's name? you know he didn't choose it...

Thankfully I've never experienced this but I would imagine you'd just call them by "honey" or "baby" or whatever?

It’s fine

I admit I would find it a bit awkward, but that would not stop me from dating someone if I got into them especially since I'm low key desperate right now.

My name no big deal, but if they had the same name as one of my siblings or parents that might be a deal breaker :toofunny3:

Name isn't that bad compared to dating someone that looks like you or even worse your sibling :coffee:

Yes, I almost did several years back. He was way too wishy-washy, though; other than that, he was my type but he just had way too much going on. I still think of him every now and then and hope he's doing okay.

It's stupid but honestly I'd avoid it. It just feels bizarre

No, it would be weird.

My name is a common name too so yeah.

Sure, why not.

i have an uncommon name and almost never meet other people with it so it would be kinda weird to not just know but date someone else with it, but it wouldn't stop me.
