Lol this is old they are fine.

 

Looks like they were driving into non-touristy areas, like that’s kinda common sense.  Most towns are fine to travel within BUT looks like they simply went the wrong way.

 

There is more crime in the US than crimes against tourists.

That's not "the cartel" and the american tourists were clearly in a non-touristy area, probably by accident. As soon as the group realized they were two gringos, they even made sure to let them know eveything was going to be okay despite the language barrier. We love a great hospitality.

Hell, I'd have been terrified too. I'd love to go to Cancun for spring break one year, but I'm not so sure now—especially with what happened recently.
