thatsmydemi Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I'd say it depends. I own a Xbox Series S and what made me go for it instead of a PS5 is explained below: I think PS5 is the best one in general because of its exclusives. Microsoft needs to get it together and give us the new Fable game they announced years ago - alongside new and interesting exclusive In terms of power, they are equal with Xbox being a bit better I've read. Now in terms of price and possibilities, Xbox wins because of Xbox Series S and Game Pass. This is what made me go for an Xbox. Game Pass is amazing and since I'm not really able to play a lot because I'm traveling constantly, it was pointless to spend over 500€ on a console. Your situation is probably different tho.
So.. what now Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Nintendo switch is much better, console in general is obsolete, that’s why they flopped and still releasing games on past gen console ala ps4 and xbox one
Wrecked Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) The one where you can play The Last of Us, Uncharted and God of War. Edited April 29, 2023 by Wrecked
chromatico Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 PS5 + a gaming pc is the ideal combo if it doesn't break the bank imo Otherwise PS5
Johnny Jacobs Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 boy boyfriend has both lemme tell you.. ps5 and close it is not especially game wise
Rence Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 PS5 and it’s not even close. No one cares about Xbox outside the US and some parts of Europe. But the true answer is Switch

Horizon Forbidden West is one of the best games ever made. They also have Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the upcoming Final Fantasy 16. Series X is also good. GamerPass is a major game changer and the ease in which their games are also available on PC is also really good. Though their 1st party exclusives aren’t that great. They bought Bethesda’s and have their new game starfield as an exclusive. Also Red Fall looks to be good too. 6 hours ago, thatsmydemi said: I'd say it depends. Hmm

Breathe On Moi Posted April 29, 2023 Author Posted April 29, 2023 Also the cost of both consoles are like $100 difference isn’t it? I don’t think making the case about one being more expensive is it, unless I guess having the Game Pass avoids you having to buy $60 games?
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted April 29, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted April 29, 2023 You should get a PS5 and Switch. Don't forget to grab The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in 2 weeks

I have the middle tier of PS Plus and haven't paid for a game in over a year (I got Elden Ring at launch cause there was no way I was waiting for it to be free). You get a full catalogue of free games with it, plus 3 free games each month. But Game Pass does have games at launch, which is def one benefit of the service. But if you haven't gamed in a long time, you're gonna have so many free games to get through on PS Plus anyway.

lavenderblo Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Playstation will always be better imo. I tried to get into Xbox as a kid and just couldn't, I always went back to my playstation.
Specter Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) So here's the thing: I'm coming at this from a loyal PC gamer's perspective. Though you have specified you don't want vague "what type of games do you like?" questions, the fact is that there is a lot more to it when picking a console. Whatever you pick, understand that it should ideally last you years (and the entire current generation, obviously) so it's not a decision you can take very lightly. I'll break it down in categories - as much as I want to say "PC" and be smug about it, I will choose not to do so (despite it being the superior platform in many objective metrics.) I. Pricing: PS5 (standard, disc) edition costs $500 (US); PS5 (digital) costs $400 (US).* Xbox Series X costs $500 (US), and Xbox Series S costs $300 (US).** * Please note that these prices have been raised by 10% recently in most global markets. ** While the only tangible difference between PS5 and PS5 (digital) is largely just the fact they don't have a BluRay DVD Drive (which might factor into your decision), there is quite a difference between Series X and S in terms of performance and capabilities. Definitely something to look up/be mindful of. The average console AAA game on launch, unfortunately thanks to greedy RATS, now costs $70. This is important because consoles, unlike PC (where games are tied to digital launchers), have a strong (well, semi-strong now) second-hand market. Bought a PS5 game for $70? Done with it? Brilliant, resell the CD and someone will buy the game. You obviously cannot do this in a system where no disc drive is present, so PS5 digital. II. Exclusives: These usually make or break decisions for people. Some Sony exclusives# include: The Last of Us, Spiderman, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima Days Gone etc. Microsoft has a few exclusives too, but honestly in my opinion they lack major blockbusters. They have a few classics and LEGENDARY gaming icons though: Halo, Forza Horizon, Gears of War, etc. #Unlike what @Wrecked said, you can actually play almost all of these games on PC In fact, very few Sony IPs are now not PC games Granted, only the first parts, but Sony itself is moving away from exclusives - they bring these games to PC years later. And an Xbox exclusive is by default available on PC. III. Value for money: This is where we get into the weeds of it. Sony has the PS+ system, which is essentially a decent monthly subscription service that offers you free games every month, at no extra cost beyond the subscription. While this is decent, it is in no way as good as Xbox GamePass, which - depending on what tier you buy - is quite literally the most value-for-money subscription service in all of gaming. You get a bunch of GREAT titles on GamePass (there are like 400 or more rn) that you can freely pay for a cheap af subscription fee for however long you want, provided they don't leave GamePass (games leave and are added regularly). Microsoft studios will sometimes even debut their big new releases on GamePass Day 1 too, and you can get excellent, critically acclaimed masterpieces like Plague Tale: Requiem for free on launch, or mid games like Atomic Heart. You can also play through a lot of PC classics. IV. Controllers The DualSense (PS5) is honestly an incredible controller, with its industry-leading haptic feedback/integration measurably taking your gaming experience to the next level. The Xbox controller feels cheaper in comparison, but has a classic design and also has vibrations, just not as good. Both consoles also have elite tier versions of controllers but I don't think that's worth getting into since that is enthusiast territory and they cost a bomb. There are more categories I could go by: VR, Future Prospects/Development Rumors, Backwards Compatibility, Performance (I wanted to go into this but it'd make this post 50x longer and idk if anyone is even reading at this point ). With all this in mind, you should just choose! My recommendation would be PS5, but I do not own it myself because console economics suck (compared to PC especially) and sometimes, on /both/ consoles, there can be quite a bit of a drought in terms of major releases to play. But I have GamePass on PC and it's brilliant too. Just choose. Edited April 29, 2023 by Phantom
JonginBey Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I have both. I own a single game for my Xbox and haven't played it since the week I bought it back in 2021. PS5 for sure.
Better Mistakes Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) I own both (PS5 disc version / Xbox series X) so here’s my take. They’re both pretty balanced this gen: Ps5 seems overall slightly better, smoother etc. ps5 has a better more next gen controller ps5 gets better exclusives imo, e.g. Spider-Man xbox is excellent for game pass. The game pass is better than PS’ version simply because gamepass has a trillion dollar company funding it. xbox and game pass has been brilliant for playing the games I want to play but was unsure if I wanted to spend money on. I use my PlayStation for its exclusives (Spider-Man, forspoken) and the Xbox for everything else. xbox has almost 200gb more storage space out of the box @Breathe On Moi Edited April 30, 2023 by Better Mistakes
JonnyCat Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 (edited) I have an XSX and kinda want a PS5, but feel I may as well wait for the rumored Pro/Slim model. Spoiler Nintendo Switch is definitely not better than PS5 or XSX. Each have their exclusives, but that's basically all a Switch is good for. Aside from Animal Crossing, Kirby, Mario, Mega Man, Pokémon and Zelda, there is not much else to play, and compared to the other consoles, it feels like they don't release many Switch games on a consistent basis.
