It's just a vague and random title based on the release date. Might even be a publicity plant for their site views. :rip:

You need to compare it with other Disney remakes made on a similar budget to get a clear picture.

As for the box office numbers I don't know if they are good or not. A 70M-90M score versus and 110M+ seems like a hug gap in predictions. Are you sure the later is not including an extra day?  Or maybe it's an updated and more accurate version?

For the overall box office, it should be noted that the studio takes 60% of US cinema compared to 40% in international cinemas and only 35% in China. So even if the movie's success turns to be local it's numbers are concentrated in US as there is more revenue for Disney than in other markets.

You could've just read the article instead of this weird way of trying to diminish the fact that it's tracking to be one of the biggest Memorial Day weekend openings of all time. :rip:

As if there was any point to that rant. :toofunny3:

How long until we get the first reviews in?

Predictions would have been 220M+ if they didn't cast Melissa McCarthy.

This is going to smash lol. I’m going the Monday after it comes out

Rooting for this movie to fail seems a little sad…

*pretends to be shocked*

Koreans made notorious comments about the movie so whatever numbers China does ... in Korea it will be 20% max bigger.

Also China only gives 30-35% of all box office earnings to studio. North America is the best market where they give up to 60% to studio.

All in all it could break even at $600M WW.

And it will make a modest profit with streams, DVD sales and other merchandise sales.

The movie is very costly. Disney needs to stop pumpin money like crazy in their movies. The new Mario movie had a bugdet of $100M with A-class voice actors and a very modern CGI animation quality.

A $100M for animated movies is more than enough. They could restrict using expensive voice actors and focus more on animation if any 'issue' comes up.

Flop is a strong word but it looks like an underperformance and I think everyone is over remakes.

China doesn’t represent the rest of the world. It’s still projected to open $100m+ here in the states.

The OP is about the states though and is saying it's expected to open with less 100M. What has China got to do with anything?

The projected estimate is updated to $90-$112 million for the 3 day and up to $143 million for the 4 day.

that’s actually overperforming what most people expected from this, so it’ll be a success.

The OP is not only misleading, but numbers have grown substantially since then. The film is very much set to be a box office smash.

Bomb or not I will definitely see it. I heard her sing in that movie and I'm sold.

This has a legitimate chance to challenge Top Gun Maverick's all-time Memorial Weekend debut record and some of ya'll in here really talking about bomb, flop, underperformance.

Just say you're out of your depth and carry on.

We know why China and Korea are paying it dust. Nothing more really needs to be said about the prejudice. Sad.

Things just aren't the same after the one-two punch of COVID and streaming/Disney+ tbh

Aladdin is still the 4th highest grossing foreign film of all time in Korea and that had 100% POC leads including Will Smith and completely outgrossed Beauty and the Beast and all other remakes, even Avatar 2 couldn't match it
