I'm more of a backpack guy, but just bought the large Telfar Shopping Bag in black. I saw a cool guy using it as a gym bag and realized it was basically a big cool tote bag, which is needed in NYC.

Depends what you mean by a purse. I have a small crossbody bag that I bring with my everywhere. It's super convenient and it means I don't have bulging pockets full of crap
