Sarah Michelle Gellar denies involvement in Cruel Intentions reboot + state of WP

Featured Replies

Sarah did an interview with Variety to clarify she won't be part of the new Cruel Intentions reboot after shooting a pilot back in 2016 for NBC for a revival that would get her character involved in new shenanigans. She also talks about Wolf Pack's renewal status:

Gellar’s already in talks for a second season – “the conversations are happening,” she tells Variety – and, for the first time, she’s seriously considering embarking on her directorial debut, if the right project comes along (“I think if something came my way where I said, ‘Oh, that’s my story to tell’”).

If she's interested in a Buffy reboot: (+ she confirms she wouldn't be involved in a reboot even as a producer)

That’s an interesting question. I think that the way we left the show was set up for that. There was a reason why the idea was that instead of “into one generation there is one Slayer” why not share the power among women. That’s one of the biggest issues with women is, we so often don’t support the other women around us. And so I think it’s a perfect way to tell the story through a modern lens. I just don’t think it should be me because of those inevitable comparisons. But I think that if somebody has a way in through those other Slayers – like, we left that there for a reason. We could have just ended it but we didn’t. So I’m all for it, if someone has that story, I just don’t think I’m the person that’s – no, let me rephrase that. I know I’m not the person to tell that story.

Her involvement in the new Cruel Intentions and how she learnt about it online:

Another iconic project of yours is “Cruel Intentions,” which has also recently been rebooted – this time as a TV show – for the second time. Are you involved with that?

No. I’ve learned a lesson with that, which is it’s a very difficult process. And eventually, or inevitably, you’re going to be let down. Because some people want a new [version], some people want this, and my place in something like that only makes you compare it to the original. And if there’s a new take and new whatever, then they get a chance to stand on their own.

Did you get a head’s up that an adaptation was in the works or did you just hear about it online?

In this instance I heard about it online. I was contacted afterwards, but I heard about it online.

I loved that pilot and saw it a million times. I woulda been sat every week. I won't watch the new one. They already had dangerous liaisons which was good and they cancelled it. (same story but in Madonna voge vma times)

the only thing I didn't like with that pilot was: the recasting of Reese but other than that it did look promising

Sarah didn't like it in the end also cause she knew NBC would tame it

The NBC pilot was everything and then some. If only Peacock had been around; it was not something made for network television, but streaming? A HIT!!

she's been taking on the worst projects since Ringer was cancelled. The Crazy Ones was lame and contrived, Wolf Pack is a great value version of Teen Wolf

Not you acting like Ringer was something to be proud of. :deadbanana:

The masturbation scene to sebastians son at the end is forever engrained into my brain :dies: It hurts less to pretend it's a movie tbh

pretty much, Ringer had a LOT of flaws, I enjoyed The Crazy Ones way more and she seemed to have fun on it

Ringer, she was so over the fact that instead of doing like 10-12 episodes like she wanted, they said full season which ultimately killed it

At least it was entertaining and SMG nailed the Siobhan role it was very much like Kathryn from Cruel Intentions.

You can tell she was over Ringer by the time it came back for the rest of the season in 2012
