But since American Idol is a TV show, TV ratings are what all matter to them

You're arguing just to argue atp. It's not what it once was, a star producing hit show. Now it just gets a fraction of the ratings and "does well" in the streaming era.

the primary goal of tv shows is to garner ratings for advertisements, everything else is secondary

For most sure, not for AI. Every season used to have a star even if it wasn't the winner, that's not the case anymore.

Idk how to break this to you but the point of American Idol has always been to generate advertising revenue, just like ANTM was never actually about finding a top model.
