I see a lot of ATRL calling their faves legends.

IMO Legends would be people like Whitney, MJ, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Tony Benett.

Do you need respect to be a legend, or will an artist contributions automatically become revered and respected when they leave this earth anyway?

No one really respects Michael Jackson as a person, whether they think he diddled kids or not. But everyone respects his music. So something needs to be respected to be considered a legend, but it does not have to be the person.

You need to have left a large impact on the industry to be a legend.  That’s it really.

Agreed. So in their field of arts, Madonna and JK Rowling are legends in their own rights, despite controversial discussion about personal things.

Anyone that gives the industry enough impact to be considered a legend by the GP is Respected.

u don't need 20 grammys and 5 +80 Metacritic albums to be considered respected.

So yes, every legend is respected cuz there's no way the artist is so impactful to the point they are considered a legend but not respected, i can't point a finger on any example of sort. It never happens. If u're that impactful u're respected.

Yes, you also have to be older imo.

I don't think anyone under 50 will be considered a "legend" by the GP.

Though gays and stan twitter have quite different standards of what constitutes a legend than most people.

Well none of y'all respect Madonna who is the biggest female legend so there's your answer.

Not really. Phil Spector will always have an asterisk next to his name.

They need to be respected by their peers, artists and GP. Stans don't have an influence on this. TBH if anything, most GP thinks Stans are cringe.

This. There are plenty of artist I don’t particularly respect but they are legends  because of the impact of their music.

Just look at Madonna as an example. I respect her and and appreciate all the doors she opened but by opening those doors she is a divisive person and has been disrespected all her career by some. Her impact alone speaks for itself and cemented her legacy.
