Covering Mariah's difficult songs on talent shows is usually setting yourself up for failure (as we've seen time and time again) but wow, she ate this

Vonzell would’ve killed this back on American Idol s4.

This is like a 6/10 at best.

my own throat hurt just from looking at her try to sing that high.

Her voice is too heavy for this song. She can clearly sing, but the song choice was poor. Emotions requires a lighter voice than hers.

 

It's a bit like if Christina would sing it. To me, this performance was better.

 she had to do it in a studio and it was still not up to par

 

Mariah’s songs are universally considered insanely difficult and nearly impossible to cover well. Hence most of the talent show versions or celeb tributes being disasters.
