Albums that should have been Grammy nominated?

Featured Replies

What's an album(s) you believe should have been at least nominated for a Grammy? (not won, but at least got on the nominations)

Lea Michele - Louder

I am very shocked this wasn't nominated. It was well received, was a chart success and to this day, still gets praised and talked about.

With tracks such as "Burn With You", "Battlefield" and "Cue the Rain", it's still a mystery no one can figure out why it was snubbed.

What are your considerations for snubs?

Considering the nominees of those years...

In the pop field: Tell Me You Love Mr (2017) Dancing with the Devil... The Art of Starting Over (2021)

In the rock field: Holy **** (2022)

Stripped/B2B - AOTY

Bionic - best pop album

Erotica/Confessions - AOTY

Madame X - best pop album

My Love Is Your Love - AOTY

Avril Lavigne, Love Sux, Head Above Water, Goodbye Lullaby, The Best Damn Thing, Glory, Britney Jean, Femme Fatale, Circus - best comedy album

biggest snubs on recent years are definitely After Hours and My beautiful dark twisted fantasy. Big on charts and some of the most acclaimed of the year. So what a grammy nom shoud be about.

Then of course talking only about pure quality there are so many possibile albums every year.

Do you mean albums that deserved an individual ‘Album Grammy Nomination’ ie. Best Pop Vocal Album/Best R&B Album, or albums/eras that received zero Grammy nominations including their singles?

If the former…

• Rihanna: Good Girl Gone Bad/Rated R

• Diana Ross: DIANA

• Jennifer Lopez: This Is Me…Then

• Janet Jackson: Rhythm Nation 1814/Janet/The Velvet Rope

• Madonna: Madonna/Erotica

• Whitney Houston: I’m Your Baby Tonight

• Mariah Carey: Glitter

• Mary J Blige: What’s The 411/Stronger With Each Tear

etc.

These two definitely deserved AOTY noms.

The ‘Best Pop Vocal Album/Best R&B Album/Best Country Album’ etc. categories weren’t awarded until 1995, hence some Janet Jackson and Madonna albums not being nominated. If you weren’t nominated for ‘AOTY’, your album, on its own, couldn’t get nominated any other way. The Grammy’s done many albums in the 1970’s/1980’s a disservice by not implementing the category sooner.

Anti should have been nominated too as AOTY.

Literally came here to say this!

It's insane that even LOUD was nominated for AOTY, but not ANTI.

The politics of it all.

Most of Britney’s albums at her peak at least in the pop vocal category

we have to admit in the first year was kind labelled as "not that successfull" ...it has became cult with the time. The nominees were still only 5...I'm saying this thinking to how much cult the album is now, i don't remember the other nominees that year.

by who exactly ? :deadvision:

OT : anything Lana ever made especially Ultraviolence and Born To Die. It’s unbelievable none of her albums get alt noms and that even song wise something like Young And Beautiful didn’t get a single nom (let alone it’s well deserved Oscar that it would’ve won if there wasn’t shady business going on bts :biblio:)

25 - Adele (winner), Purpose - Justin Bieber, Views - Drake, A Sailor's Guidance - Sturgill Simpson and Lemonade by Beyoncé.

I know this will come off as my typical delusional self, but I always felt like the Grammy's felt like they had to choose between Bey and Rih for AOTY category. And they went with Bey as Lemonade had more acclaim initially. You are definitely right about ANTi's immediate reception, it certainly wasn't as strong back then as it is in the present. I wouldn't have expected Rihanna to win, especially against Adele that year, but for her to have loss all 8 Grammy awards she was nominated for in the ANTI era is likely part of why we don't have R9 now IMO.

If we're talking about albums that received zero noms then Plastic Hearts. It definitely deserved nominations and it's actually quite outrageous it was snubbed. Blackout also but it's no surprise as it was during the hate campaign against Britney and she also had said that the Grammy's could kiss her ass.
