Toni Braxton & Christina Aguilera

Their self-titled debut albums both peaked at #1, were certified 8x platinum in the US, produced multiple top ten hits, and they won Best New Artist at the Grammys.

Their second albums both began with the letter S and were similarly successful in the States ( though peaked at #2), but also were big in Europe and gave them their biggest hits of their career (Unbreak My Heart & Beautiful).

Their third albums were moderately successful and produced one top 10 hit and were certified 2x platinum, but signs of a decline were evident.

By their fourth albums, the public had moved on and they produced zero hits and the album were colossal flops.

They also felt their singles sabotaged by two major stars (Beyoncé & Lady Gaga).

Their success as solo artists also spanned the same amount of time (7 years).

Toni had more of an impact in her genre though and in the Black community. She has several classics - Seven Whole Days, Another Sad Love Song, You Mean the World…, You’re Makin Me High, Let It Flow, Unbreak My Heart, The Heat, etc. 

 

Christina has Genie, Reflection, Beautiful, Candyman, Ain’t No Other…

But to be fair starting from 2002 until the end of the 00s Toni faced tons of unluck: from getting screwed over by record labels, manager, to having health and financial issues (thanks to her insurance screwing her over too). Even with all of this she pulled through, continues to be active and is a R&B icon.

this. even though I love Toni more than Christina, the latter career is much bigger. Toni was so unlucky and her health issues/high risk pregnancy ended her run in 2002/2003 while the label ended any campaign and promo for More than a Woman after the first single release.

Not a fan of either but I know about 7 Christina songs and 1 Toni so I’m gonna go ahead and say the GP was more impacted by Christina

What's next? Stacie Orrico had more of an impact on music than Xtina did?

The stats are irrelevant when Toni's on the caliber of The Temptations and Stevie Wonder, while Christina is comparable to Shakira on her best songs and Fergie on her off songs. 

 

The Taste levels are off.

Tonis first two albums are diamond eligible, dont play with her.

Why does ATRL consistently try to erase Keeps Gettin' Better, a Platinum solo Top 10 hit attached to a Platinum-eligible album? Xtina was a commercial force for up to 12 years as even "Not Myself Tonight" was received well at first and charted high in international territories like Japan and various European countries.

The difference is that Toni Braxton achieved her commercial success as a sole R&B act (who incorporated elements of Pop, Soul and AC into her music) as opposed to Christina Aguilera who was always a sole Pop artist (who incorporated elements of R&B, Hip-Hop and Pop-Rock into her music). 
 

Braxton debuted in an era where Contemporary R&B was largely mainstream and at its peak (1992-2002) hence the singles/albums success but it didn’t come close to the Platform that Aguilera debuted on - the Disney/Teen-Pop era before continuing on the Pop path, scoring a much broader and bigger audience at the same time. 
 

I understand the comparison but Aguilera always had a wider reach, so the fact that they’re on par (essentially) says a lot.

Stripped and B2B did better in abroad than Christina Aguilera.
