Is it fatphobic to tell someone they should lose weight?

No wonder our generation suffers from mental illness the most. What the heck is fatphobic? Creating a new phobia every day.

Does your friend also tell his doctor that they are fatphobic? @Lipgloss

If you're really close and know that they take the advice well then no. Otherwise mind your own business.

Most of the time it’s true. But it’s not easy. So unless you offering a roadmap, to pay for a personal trainer, or prepare their meals it’s in poor taste.

You're just stating FACTS

it is rude. that person already knows they are fat and they are just wanting to vent about their problems to a friend and hope for some compassion and kindness. he isn't gonna be grateful cause you told him to lose weight, he isn't gonna be like "oh that's a good idea thanks like i haven't thought of it before" they just want to be heard, they aren't looking for you to fix their problems they already know what the solution is but they don't feel worthy or confident enough to lose weight or they have a medical condition, and you are not their doctor. it is unhelpful and if you are trying to be a good friend there are better ways to help your friend instead of being a prick

Fatphobic? No. But it is rude. If it annoys you that he complains a lot just start ignoring him or leave him be. It’ll save you troubles later on.

I could understand it if you’re having a conversation with your friend about health.

But telling them to lose weight to improve their dating life… i’d unfriend you so quickly.

yes because you could be 'fat' and healthy, you should tell them to exercise and eating healthy for better health but not losing weight which doesn't guarantee better health.

also you should never lose weight for dating. and by saying that is pure fatphobic because you're basically saying fat people won't find date.

I believe it largely depends on the delivery of the message.

This, and the context of the conversation.

same tbh. a lot of times when you say mean things about their weight, it just causes them to binge eat. everyone's different though.

this. yall need to leave other people weight alone. it causes many to have eating disorders.

I tell that only to real friends casually.

if your friend isn't sure if its coming from love then maybe you first evaluate if you can say, well, anything.

Unless you're a doctor or they ask then yes.

Don't feel bad for stating the obvious :clap3:

And why should we normalize obesity?

Same reason you are freaking out in the meghan trainer thread. This is hypocritical, baby

It just depends on how you say it & the intentions.

its uncalled for. to address the health issues you can suggest to eat better and in terms of dating, everyones is into different things. i hate this idea we all have to look a certain way to be considered desirable.

yes, it's f*king rude.

We're not normalizing obesity, we're normalizing people not ******* despising themselves. :clap3:

Stop commenting on people's weight. Simple as that.

No but it's rude and inappropriate. Fat people look at the mirror like the rest of the world, they know they are fat and should lose weight. You should avoid comments like this unless they ask you.

Girl what even is this... do you think people make themselves become mentally ill for some reason? :deadbanana4:

Oh, absolutely. You can continue to find a problem with everything until you drive yourself into anxiety and depression, cutting yourself off from a peace of mind and happiness.

Yes. Mind your business.
