Imagine in every label had its own streaming service, and you had to go to one app for Gaga and Taylor, and another app for Miley and Doja, and another app for Lizzo or Tiesto. It’d be a nightmare. And that’s exactly exactly with the film and TV business is forcing onto us. 
 

They should just grow up and make Netflix (or any of the companies) the universal central streaming service.

okay so what i’m wondering is …. my HBO Max is free cuz my family has HBO in their cable channel or whatever plan …. is this going to be separate from HBO to the point that i’ll now have to pay for this service ???

 

if that’s the case they are about to watch their subscriber base fall off a cliff. this MAGA idiot running the $h!t, deleting content for tax write offs and coming up with nothing worthwhile is truly so braindead.

Good question... I would assume no. 

 

I think MAX will still be the internet home for all HBO-branded content, but it will also now have content from Discovery and other owned property and brands as well (like DC movies and shows).  I sort of see the point bc there is a huge difference between HBO originals like Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and Succession compared to HBO Max originals like Gossip Girl.  I imagine regular shows like Gossip Girl (RIP) will just be called MAX Originals, while HBO content will keep the HBO Originals brand, DC movies and shows will be have a DC tag, etc.  Slightly reminds me of what Netflix was originally like years ago when they had content from every studio on earth in one place.

This is so bizarre to me. People have such a positive view of HBO why would you want to disassociate yourself from it?

 

Not to mention they went with the most generic and awkward sounding name there is. Max is unsearchable. If they wanted to rebrand so badly couldn’t they at least name it The WB or smth? It holds a lot of nostalgia for so many people this would have been a good opportunity to revive it.

I think y’all are overreacting. It’s literally just a slight rebrand to clarify what is available to stream from their service. Within 3 months everyone will be calling it Max and it will not be a big deal. It’s not a big enough change from what it’s called now that anyone will be confused by the new name. And it’s not going to suddenly deter people from the service when they have some of the biggest, most discussed and acclaimed shows and IP on television. 
 

Harry Potter tv series alone is enough to rocket the new platform. Regardless of quality, it will have massive initial interest, especially following the success of that Hogwarts video game
