How do some of you only listen to sad music?

Featured Replies

This is aimed primarily at the alt girlies on here. Like does listening to Lana Del Rey on repeat not make you depressed? I can definitely appreciate sad music from time to time, but if it were the only thing I listened to I think I'd be miserable 24/7.

For example, I love Magdalene by FKA Twigs but I barely ever listen to it because it's so sad :gaycat6:

sis same, i dont get it. like my bf listens to sad break up songs A LOT, like most of the day, and I can't help but thinking is he thinking of his exes or smth, because I can never relate listening to sad songs a lot and not thinking my exes. i guess you and me are on the same page and those sad girlies are on different page:bird:

I romanticize and depressify my life all the time, it does makes me sad but it's a price i'm willing to pay.

I love melancholy music. In my opinion, that’s when most artists shine the best.

the attraction to melancholia is not a new thing and goes back at least a couple of centuries to 19th century romanticism

um because i like to pretend that im living in a movie and that movie ain’t Project X

The sad music sound is just better. Anything that's slightly danceable is a NO

I'd literally k-word myself if that's what I was playing all the time...

We been depressed for more than a decade so not really. Also listen to some music to appreciate its beauty and not necessarily its mood

With her unreleased work, Lana has a lot of

material that isn’t necessarily “sad”, like Be My Daddy or Meet Me In The Pale Moonlight. :bird: But I think it’s all about the mood you’re in and what you want to hear. A lot of the time my mind is more calm and introspective and listening to Lana helps soothe that.

I don't really know how to process my emotions, so sad and/or introspective music sometime helps me put words on my feelings and thoughts and therefore understand them. I used to dance my emotions away, but ever since lockdown in 2020 I had to face them.

obviously, but you have to simplify it for most people here :celestial2:

Because we understand it’s not just “sad” music. It’s beautifully tragic, I fear. Angst, melancholy, regret, anxiety, wistfulness. This kind of music encompasses many authentic human emotions beyond sadness. Like when I listen to Lana I feel sooooo mindful and present and honesty happy, never really that sad. :jonny6:
