Mariah making any type of list of merit in Brazil? The Madonna stans have been campaigning for 30 years that she was unknown in that part of the world. Was i lied to?

I'm Brazilian and I would not trust any sort of music data from Brazil.

Brazil doesn't have that sort of data for international artists and not even for national artists. Numbers are entirely arbitrary and based on what the label said the album sold. They might've been reliable at some point, but everything after the 2000s should be taken with a grain of salt. Historically, we're one of the biggest piracy consumers in the world so official numbers might mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

 

Music has never been properly tracked here because of how much piracy has been present in our culture. And I'm not even talking about downloading stuff on the internet, I'm talking about how huge physical sales of pirate CDs have always been bigger than official CD sales.

I agree, we don't even have a proper chart for sales, streaming or even radio (and radio still is a big player outside big cities). I bet Adele's DVD sold more copies than her albums here, just for comparison

we have shipment codes on albums indicating how many albums were shipped to stores. That system has been active since 2003.

Yeah but then again, shipments do not always translate to regular sales. So it's not really something I would consider reliable.

This is unbelievable to me. PD and DELL were almost as successful, with DELL slightly having more achievements.

I think you're confusing DELL with Servicio de Lavandería (Laundry Service). DELL has no English version.

If shipment gets restocked then that means the album is still selling. Adele 25 had a big shipment of I believe 175k but it took 2 years to sell. It didn’t get a new shipment until 2017. That’s how you know the total. And certification were a thing too, back in 2000s.

Pies Descalzos has a Portuguese album version called “The Remixes”. She crossed over to Brazil before crossing over to the English language market.

Absolutely, once that shipment has sold or is about to sell out, the stores or whoever order new shipments... and that's what is indicated by the codes. However, that system has only been available since 2003. So, we only know of shipments from that year on. We do not know exactly how much music has sold before that. 

 

However, is there an official music industry which certifies units? Or is it the ifpi which certifies for Brazil? Because music certs do exist there as well.
