DEADLINE: Daisy Ridley Returning As Rey In Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy & Steven Knight Star Wars Movie

Daisy Ridley is to reprise her role as Rey in the upcoming Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, while Dave Filoni and James Mangold will helm other films in the franchise.  The news was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration in London this morning, which saw a guest appearance from Ridley.

Her movie from Obaid-Chinoy, penned by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, will be set after the events of her previous movie in the franchise, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, and as she builds a new Jedi Order. Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were previously attached. Scroll down for footage of her Star Wars Celebration appearance.
 

Last month, Deadline confirmed that Academy Award nominee Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) had taken over as the screenwriter for Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars movie following the recently announced departure of scribes Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Sources tell us that the film will likely be one of the first out of the gate for the studio, if not the first.

I’m super hyped about this.  I thought it would be a much longer wait before we’d see more post-Sequel Trilogy content in Star Wars, so I’m thrilled to see Rey is back!

I'm surprised LucasFilm can still get articles written when it announces hiring writers etc now tbh. Might as well title the article "LucasFilm announces new slate of movies, date of cancellation to be confirmed" 

 

Until they actually start filming I'm going to assume LucasFilm has just ran out of writers to fire so had to hire some more so they can have creative differences with someone in a few months. Feels like they don't even want to release a movie.
