Orsay Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 it was the late 90s/early 2000s, what are we gonna do go back in time and cancel them? 54 minutes ago, Trent W said: Back then it was “progressive” to talk about or include some of these topics This is an important point too that a lot of young people might not be able to wrap their heads around. The mere fact that some LGBT groups were visible on this show at all was rare and progressive back then, even if it wasn't always in a good light
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Things were different. If you don't like old stuff watch new stuff op. And just like that is right there Edited April 2, 2023 by MadonnasBoyfriend
samsclubPRESENTSavam Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 The alanis morissette episode lives rent free in my head. Carrie saying "...and so I took my old fart ass home" after being uncomfortable kissing a woman, whew. 💀
HEAVYONIT Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 The world was transphobic in the 90's. It was a different time. I don't believe anything was done maliciously.
commander Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 For today’s standards, sure. But so it was every show made in the 90s. Even Friends have some disgusting transphobic episodes.

CaptainMusic Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 There were some transphobic comments but this was progressive for the time. Dumb to look at old shows with a current mindset
doonerr Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Didn't we already do this in 2015? "What about Friends not having any black people on despite being set in New York City?" teas Get a grip, all those shoes are ancient, it's massive that they were ever considered somewhat progressive Edited April 2, 2023 by doonerr
Mikeymoonshine Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Like all the popular 00s shows were wildly offensive in several ways. So yes lol.
Robert Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Yes, also bi-phobic, homophobic and racist but a lot of it was a product of the time unfortunately. It’s still a great show and progressive in other ways. Edited April 2, 2023 by Robert
Happylittlepunk Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 No, it was a progressive show for its time during the 90s.
cockatoo Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Why is everyone in here so mad? Nothing in the OP indicates they're personally offended by this episode, it's just a discussion. Analysing and thinking critically about media isn't new and there's nothing wrong with looking back on old tv and films and reflecting on whether certain topics would be acceptable now. OT: Yeah it was transphobic but I don't think the writers were being malicious tbh.
