MadonnasBoyfriend Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) And in this definition I mean using gifs featuring black people while not being black. I feel shaming anyone for using a newyork gif would be silly but it might become a thing if it grows into a movement. Hopefully it's just a fad. Edited March 29, 2023 by MadonnasBoyfriend
Sheep Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) Some yt ppl make black pop culture their substitute for a personality and I think its weird but I feel like cultural appropriation talks have become so extreme that it’s border lining on resegregation looking like a good thing to some people. Illuminati Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) It would require me to closely watch everyone who I assume is black and it doesn't seem right Part of internet anonymity is accepting the fact that some people will lie about their whole identity. I learned it the hard way growing up and have never fallen into the trap of blindly believing someone ever again Spoiler If this is about avis, I have used Nicki's image in the past, so I guess I'm guilty as well if it lead to people assuming I'm Nicki Edited March 29, 2023 by Illuminati
Big Bad Wolf Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Digital black is a real thing. There are people on the internet pretending to be black to spread hateful rhetoric. However I think a non-black person using a gif of a black person isn’t doing any harm unless of course intended to.
samsclubPRESENTSavam Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 The only way I ever knew someone was using digital blackface was if we were on social media. So unless you know something it's basically a losing fight.
ATRL Administrator Ryan Posted March 29, 2023 ATRL Administrator Posted March 29, 2023 It’s the exclusive use of black gifs + use of AAVE + adopting the personality of a sassy black woman that is the digital black face.
TiaTamera Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Are the people responding Black? OP are you Black? I hope no one in here is speaking FOR Black people.
TheCheshireCat Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Ever since this conversation came up a few years ago I have actually made an effort to not use as many “sassy” black women gifs as reactions, especially when it’s a gif that might be lowkey making fun of them. While this obviously doesn’t make a huge impact I did notice that I was using them as more than necessary so I stopped.

Cheers Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 And in this definition I mean using gifs featuring black people while not being black. Huh
Alldeezy Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 anyone likes finding an excuse to destroy and bully someone. so NO I don't think it should be a thing, the internet is toxic enough! guess It's time to use nothing but my fave as gifs now. because people on the internet are obsessed with ending me.
Devin Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) It’s a problem when skinny YT gay named Steve, who can’t cook chicken login to ATRL abusing AAVE and emboding characteristics of a Black person. Edit: Most white ppl and non-American users are gonna say NO bc its an issue that doesn’t effect their community lol – it really depends on the GIF and intent behind it. Trent W Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 I think that someone pretending to be black online is ****** up, that is what needs to be called out, but it’s impossible to prove. The blackface thing CNN posted of white people using gifs of black people is stupid as hell tho, unless someone is directly mocking black culture To me the journalists creating terms like “digital blackface” are attention seeking and creating more conflict. I think that smart people are able to spot this type of intentions. Anyone who falls for it is just dumb.
Helios Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Okay so then black people should not be able to use GIFs with white people in them. How does that sound?
Companion Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 Damn using black people gif as reactions is cultural appropriation now?
playboi Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 No I have more important stuff going on in my life
Mitsouko Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 No I have a job, hobbies, friends, can take a walk, can achieve orgasm… why would I care if a white uses a gif of Tiffany Pollard?
JustHoran Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 What a joke. I will continue to use my New York gifs and I guess some people can continue to be pressed.
