vale9001 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) i mean i have read all the thing and they have a point. some of you are posting gifs to mocking it but if you read the article they say what you are using, gifs of a black man -woman smiling or oprah "i told you", is not digital blackface. So.... Edited March 27, 2023 by vale9001

sourtwink Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 people here baselessly saying a white person wrote this when; 1. a black person did. 2. this has been a huge talking point on black twitter for years atp
AxelFox Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I am white, so take this as you will. Even if there are some valid points raised in the article, I think attitudes like this only enforce further segregation and separation between people of different races & ethnicities instead of taking us to a point where things like this don't matter and we all just see eachother as people and equal. Can only speak for myself, but I doubt a majority of people use strictly GIFs strictly with black people to showcase specific feelings. They gave the example of the Tyra Banks 'rooting for you' gif in association with angriness and aggressiveness, but honestly I see the gif with the white woman ripping curtains apart used just as often in similar circumstances. We can all be angry, sassy and have funny overreactions regardless of the color of our skin.
Helios Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 So now non black people cant use gifs with black people in them? I mean is anyone allowed to look at black people or is that too racist?
Sesame Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I don’t want to live in a world where my gifs are limited
Wrecked Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) After reading the article I can understand what they’re attempting to say, but some of it applies to any GIF and not just those that contain black people. They reference the “ain’t nobody got time for that” lady and mention how in the video her apartment had burnt down but people are using her ‘trauma’ to create a funny GIF, but does this not happen with a lot of GIFs? Where something that’s not necessarily funny is used as a reaction GIF? I see people spamming the GIF of the dog in Lady Gaga threads for comedic effect, even after somebody pointed out that the dog is actually dead in the video the GIF comes from… Edited March 27, 2023 by Wrecked
Illuminati Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I'm pretty sure digital blackface started as a shitpost many years ago and I've only heard that term being used ironically up until this CNN thing I feel like any moment JK Rowling will catch on and have an opinion about gays using female popstar gifs and "pretending to be women" If you're not using a clip of yourself as a reaction gif then you are appropriating someone

I've seen people on ATRL cosplay as a specific celebrity, like Kworb only using Tiziano gifs, but nobody thinks that they're that person in real life. Emojis might be a separate topic, cause I could see how that would be deceiving. Edited March 27, 2023 by Illuminati
XtianB Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 There comes a point where you just gotta say “so be it” and move on
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Digital blackface is not about memes, it's non black people creating an entire online persona impersonating a black person ffs I'm so tired of these so called "news" creating rage bait articles with the end goal is to people blaming non white people for being "too sensitive" or whatever This is an example of digital blackface:
brazil Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 It's not our fault New York gave us so many iconic gifs
Last Boy on Earth Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I mean black people are way more charismatic and expressive. I understand why white gays are obsessed with using their gifs, they do not have the range
