Sergi91 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) After years of having Apple Music (paying as a student) and one of those years Spotify (student account) as well… I’m now considering moving back to Spotify. I miss how easy it was to create playlists and being updated on whats currently popular. I also miss having the yearly review. Going back to Spotify would mean that I have to pay $10 instead of continuing my Apple Music student account for $5.99. However, I also remember how the music quality sounded better on AM. Thoughts on this? Edited March 27, 2023 by Sergi91
Into The Void Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I prefer Spotify platform and ease not use. I found AM annoying tbh
Sni2 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I've been using Youtube Music since Joni Mitchell and Neil Young retracted their music from Spotify because they are relevant to my playlists and general listening habits. I've been enjoying it very much and the Year in Music on the app isn't bad either. Also, they release seasonal playlists with your most listened as well. The only downside so far is that the general playlists aren't as good as Spotify and there are no sites for you to keep track of your listening habits frequently. But I do think the "radio" section on Youtube music is better for some reason I can't quite point out.
PoisonedIvy Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I’ve literally been paying for both because I can’t pick one. Spotify has an AMAZING UI imo. Their app runs smoothly, everything is easy, convenient, and smooth. But yeah.. the sound quality isn’t it. Apple Music has MUCH MUCH MUCH better sound quality it’s insane. Like I actually get upset at how bad Spotify’s is in comparison. But everything else about Apple Music is rather clunky and annoying. it’s a tough choice between interface and quality.
Leptine Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 If you have Apple devices AM will always be the best option imo, it's basically iTunes, playlists are easy to create there as well.
Orsay Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I have Spotify but I kinda wanna switch cause AM has Joanna Newsom and Joni Mitchell
loveisdead9582 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I left Apple Music and went to Spotify premium a few years ago. I haven’t looked back since. Spotify is pretty easy to use and the recommendations are usually pretty on point. Apple Music was anything but.
Devin Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I prefer Spotify but I also been a AM and Tidal user, they all have different perks. AM - has the music library and spatial audio (its meh imo) Spotify - has the stats and cool features TIDAL - has the best sound
Meev Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I can never understand people who are subscribed to more than one music site. Honestly, just stick to Spotify, and for any songs that you want to listen to in high quality, buy them on iTunes to give more to the artists.
Archetype Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 23 minutes ago, Sergi91 said: I miss how easy it was to create playlists It takes one tap in the AM app to create a playlist, and two to add a song to a playlist. 23 minutes ago, Sergi91 said: being updated on whats currently popular AM has local and global charts, trending playlists, etc. What else do you mean by this? 24 minutes ago, Sergi91 said: I also miss having the yearly review Apple launched this in 2021 and has been doing it ever since. It's not as cool as Spotify's yet, but it's getting significantly better every year. 25 minutes ago, Sergi91 said: I also remember how the music quality sounded better on AM AM's sound quality is significantly better than Spotify's. I will say that Spotify's algorithm for recommending music is better than Apple's, and if most of your listening habits revolve around finding new music, then I can see how this would make sense. However, is that + a cooler year in review experience worth switching for?
BGKC Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Maybe it’s because I’ve had AM since like 2016, but I do not at all consider Spotify to be more user friendly. I’ve tried to transition to see how much “better” these playlists are but it’s one of the situations where I was just so used to one thing to bother with another. They both serve the same purpose, but a downgrade in quality IS NOT worth the transition overall. The playlists on AM are fine. It knows what I like and isn’t as ad driven.
SleepNoMore Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 As mentioned the sound on Apple Music is so much better. I listen to music on good headphones and the difference in sound quality is so much better it shocked me. I listened the same song right after on both platforms to compare and it was insane. Spotify sounds so muddy and crap compared to AM. I have no issues with the interface either. I had Spotify for a long time too, but quit it for the sound quality. If you’re just listening in your car or in the background and don’t care about sound quality that much then I can see why you might switch but otherwise stay with AM

Delirious Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Spotify is monopolizing the market too much. Stay with apple music because it's cheaper and much much better quality

If giving more to the artist is a factor then wouldn’t one just go with AM in general? Artists get paid double per stream on AM compared to Spotify.
Helios Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Spotify is just where its at. Sorry to AM, Amazon Music, tidal and the other lessors. They just can't compete.
Delirious Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Also have you tried tidal or Deezer? They're all decent

bijonse Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) Spotify sound quality is just so bad i can’t deal with it and i like how Apple Music matches the rest of the iPhone ui. I forget it’s like a separate service i pay for it feels like having unlimited iTunes. Spotify makes better suggestions for music though like I can’t leave Apple Music on autoplay like I can for Spotify it makes horrible choices Edited March 27, 2023 by bijonse
Gorjesspazze9 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Spotify is only good at Playlists. It’s way easier to learn new songs. It’s basically the Netflix of Music streaming. but Apple is better at pretty much everything else, and I pay for both. I use Apple Music 85% of the time when I’m listening to albums. also Spotify’s new User interface is horrible IMO. I still use both tho.
