Breathe On Moi Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I literally never ever ever order delivery, I learned my lesson through the pandemic, literally $25 for a sandwich and expect to tip on top? what the **** I’ll tip when I do pick up if it’s somewhere I pick up from often and I know the people by now and the food is great.

Habibro Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Honestly it’s been in my experience that those who don’t tip, don’t have the money to. Get a better income. Those with decent jobs have no problem tipping properly
Guest Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I think the elephant in the room is, it depends on the country and culture. In the United States, most delivery drivers and servers make WAY below an acceptable minimum hourly rate, and depend on tips. On the other hand, if we were in European country, tipping wouldn’t be a necessity and could even be seen as offensive. With that said, I live in the United States, and tip minimum 20%, whether I eat in or eat out. If I’m in Mexico, I do the same there.
wesleywalrus Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Until the government steps in and ensures delivery delivers pay and not service gig pay (like NY and CA) then you should tip for the service you receive. Would you go to the restaurant and pick your own order up for $2.50? No? Because you're ordering delivery...be serious.

Nobody should be expected to tip on a pick-up order This, on both counts. I almost never do delivery anymore because after fees and tip the cost comes out to be unreasonably high, but I still do at least 20% on those rare occasions. The delivery drivers make next to nothing without tips.
Johnny Jacobs Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I always tip the delivery guy.. I mean i dont get it either but we do that here so.. Takeaway tho.. No. Thats stupid. What's next? Tipping cashiers?
Vespertine Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Wow lots of cheapskates in this thread who should not be ordering via DoorDash! Get your lazy cheap asses out of the house and pick things up yourself if you’re not going to tip.
Mr. Mendes Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) Y'all can say whatever you want but yes it is the responsibility of the employer to pay their employee fairly but they don't so if you don't tip, then that worker just finishes their shift with little money to take home. You not tipping won't inspire the employer to pay more, they just say "maybe tomorrow will be better for you" and send you on your way. If you can't afford to tip or aren't willing, then cook at home. Your little protest doesn't hurt the business, it hurts the worker. You can't claim to care about them not getting paid enough in one moment and then withhold a tip in the next. Edited March 21, 2023 by Mr. Mendes

I hate it when I order a coffee at my local coffee shop and the barista says “it’s just going to ask you a few questions” and it’s a tip thing on the iPad imo do what you want. Those employees probably aren’t making enough money but who is really. Almost all cashiers and baristas and the like at least make an hourly wage so they’re not quite as dependent upon tips as waiters or delivery drivers. When I was a barista and we had the swivel iPad I would usually judge people who didn’t tip (especially when they were regular customers) but eventually I’d just move on to the next customer and forget about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
James_Joint Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 For pick up orders I might tip $1 for delivery I’ll tip 3-5 dollars but never more than $5
niiall Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 The fact that people can hold these two beliefs at the same time and broadcast them 1. "It's up to the employer to pay their employees a fair wage" 2. "Why should I tip them they're barely doing any work at all" Going from complaining about the evils of capitalism to sounding like Jeff Bezos. A cheap mess

For some people this is a force living under unfortunate circumstances & you wouldn’t want someone doing that to you or a love one in a desperate attempt of making Living. Imagine not tipping the person who used their gas to bring you food because you were lazy. 1$??? Joke!!!! The app should tell the drivers BEFORE picking up the food on how much the person tips so they can decide if they want to do it! I agree with this. I always tip. I even tip on pick up orders because people are laboring hard to make the food and I’m sure it’s a mundane job for them. They’re people who are just trying to make ends meet with low wages. These types of jobs can also be bottom of the barrel for some people. If I have the means and can make someone’s day better by tipping, absolutely I would.
Attitude Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I don't tip for pickup, but I definitely tip for delivery. Sometimes your food will just sit there because no one wants to deliver an order with no tip. I also tip depending on the distance from my house.
May Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 tipping culture is out of control im assuming y’all are from america ive tipped once or twice in my life and it’s been to uber drivers while ive been drunk this is why i could never live in america cos why are y’all directly paying other people’s employees wages ?? it makes absolutely zero sense
SapphireSky Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) The UK is a **** hole but I'm glad tipping is not a thing here Edited March 21, 2023 by SapphireSky
GagaTomFord Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 it SHOULD be up to these companies to pay them fairly but the fact is they don't. Refusing to tip 15% in the U.S. just means you're broke and should be picking it up yourself. companies don't pay them fairly while restaurants raise their food prices specifically for these services because they know people will pay for it either way and yet people are mad at the employees?
Hephaestus Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I very rarely tip. I'm already paying for the service and delivery, I don't feel like I should also pay for their employees. That's something the company should take care of to be honest.

Miracle Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 That's more than enough. The DoorDash guy is being paid for that service and you cannot make the customer pay for the shitty work laws there is in X country (in this case USA)
