JonRih Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 https://www.insider.com/nyu-student-hated-study-abroad-semester-florence-italy-2023-3?amp I really wonder how these people get their articles published on such a moderately huge site because she comes off as insufferable in every part of the article
mystery Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 She sounds extremely entitled and obnoxious. Emily in Paris turned into Stacia in Florence.
Archetype Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I love how she barely even mentions the art or history of the city as if she’s stuck in some random location for a semester with nothing to do. Should have told my Uber driver to hit anyone who looks like an NYU student when we were there at the same time.
LittleStarmen Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 why is this published. her details are not even interesting.... sounds like she doesnt like leaving her house
Navy4Life Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) She sounds like the most boring girl ever. the “I wanted to travel to learn about myself” like stfu Edited March 14, 2023 by Navy4Life
liver Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 that's why it's okay to bully americans like her from time to time
ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted March 14, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted March 14, 2023 She sounds like an extremely annoying person 38 minutes ago, JonRih said: https://www.insider.com/nyu-student-hated-study-abroad-semester-florence-italy-2023-3?amp I really wonder how these people get their articles published on such a moderately huge site because she comes off as insufferable in every part of the article There’s a lot of terrible articles like this one on that website unfortunately. Pretty sure it’s all freelance. And now she can claim to be a published author and get more chances to write even more tragic articles 7 minutes ago, Navy4Life said: She sounds like the most boring girl ever. the “I wanted to travel to learn about myself” like stfu The ironic part is she mentioned that after complaining about her roommate leaving her alone every weekend like she had plenty of time to learn more about herself but was too dumb to notice.
ariananext Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Could she not meet anybody else other than her roommates? Why is she blaming people for having different priorities and/or habits? She's crying about the most random things like "NY not being on a hold while she was away". Groundbreaking. The amount of people that would die to live 6 months in Florence, and it also sounds like she hasn't paid for it.
stoopidjenna Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Seems like she was complaining more about the study abroad experience in general and not Florence in particular. The pitch/angle was probably, “everyone always raves about study abroad, but it isn’t for everyone.” Mildly contrarian headlines get clicks, even on subjects as mundane as this.
The Next Day Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) The amount of contradictions make me think this has to be satire. Quote My routine looked drastically different from that of my roommates. I had a GPA to upkeep and an online internship. I wasn't out partying; I was home working most of the time, and it became difficult to concentrate on my assignments. Why was it difficult to concentrate on work when she was home alone? Quote Since three-day weekends are the standard for NYU's study-abroad programs, almost everyone chose to take $20 Ryanair flights to places like Croatia and Munich for Oktoberfest. To me, this seemed like an exhausting form of escapism. I was convinced my peers were doing it only to freshen up their social-media profiles and make their friends back home jealous. (...) Fellow NYU students who stayed in New York were actively pursuing in-person internships, networking with zeal, and making moves to advance their futures. I felt like I was wasting precious time in Florence. Then do something about it? Maybe start networking in Europe and don't judge your roommates for not wasting time??? Also she says she travelled as well during her stay, so what exactly is her problem? Quote During those lonely weekends, I ran along the Arno river, popped into free gallery exhibits, and cooked with ingredients I found at local vegetable markets. (...) Yet I also can't be the only one who thought studying abroad was a nightmare. Her life really seems like a nightmare. The whole paragraph about how she thought Italians would welcome her with open arms and as soon as she found out she's not the Italian princess she thought she would be she started acting like a middle-schooler and "protested" against integrating herself. I mean, she perfectly describes how she thought her experience would be like every cliche known and now she's furious that she didn't get the delusional Italian experience she made up in her head. This has to be a joke, it just has to be. She seems like a nightmare to deal with. Edited March 14, 2023 by The Next Day
TheLastChord Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Bye, she's trying to make it seem like living your life while also pursuing your career goals is something that's completely impossible. Girl, just stay in nyc.
Orsay Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Quote I started to protest by presenting myself to the public in a way I knew they'd hate. I started wearing American-brand athleisure, Nike Air Max 97s, and oversize hoodies. The Italians rolled their eyes as I passed them on the street. got their asses! I hope its a joke though lol
Konril Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 She sounds really pretentious, no wonder her roommates don't want that energy around them.
xxx Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Quote I imagined fun potluck dinners with my roommates, summer flings with people who called me "bella," gelato that dripped down my fingers in the heat, and natural wine that paired effortlessly with good conversation and better prosciutto. I get it. Life is never going to be as good or as interesting as fiction. Quote But most weekends, I stayed at home in Florence, while my classmates burned themselves out with travel. During those lonely weekends, I ran along the Arno river, popped into free gallery exhibits, and cooked with ingredients I found at local vegetable markets. I was left in the apartment completely alone. This lack of human interaction didn't help me feel optimistic. This part reminded me of this video:
magazine Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 This has to be a joke. Not them travelling "every weekend" and she felt alone
AintNoOtherMe Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I can’t she sounds so obnoxious, no wonder her roommates didn’t want to hang out with her @Reverse Warholian @Walk_Away21
Take Me Apart Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 "I also thought the locals I met were rude and hostile toward me, and I missed my life in New York." This reads like satire But her feelings are valid

But she's in college in New York so isn't she used to that? Screaming at her skull dragging the locals though.
The7thStranger Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) She sounds insufferable, and I can't believe this even got published. Sorry, but la dolce vita is a myth like the American Dream. It's not real. I wonder why living outside her comfort zone was so difficult... it's.. such... a mystery.... 59 minutes ago, Orsay said: got their asses! Cain Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 There’s so many expats here that complain about the city, like… go home?
