Warner Bros believes the “HBO” in “HBO Max” turns away many potential subscribers

Warner Bros. Discovery is pushing forward with a plan to drop “HBO” from the name of its flagship streaming service HBO Max.

That decision for the long-planned rebranding of the combined HBO Max and Discovery+ services was partially informed by the company’s belief that “the HBO name turns off many potential subscribers,”

The name change is meant to signal that the service will not just be HBO Max with Discovery content, nor will HBO Max be ported over to Discovery+. “Max” is the leading contender

The self-sabotage :rip:

This is 100% PR spinning.  HboMax is hurting the HBO brand (because it's trash + unreliable), not the other way around.

The fact that they thought shitting on HBO was a good idea, though :rip:

As if Warner is better :rip:

"Max" is like the most generic name in the world :deadbanana2:.

There can only be one Max

I'm trying to rationalise how they could think this is true. This would only make sense if their target market is conservatives who probably associate HBO with adult-oriented shows and nudity.

What the f*ck? :skull:

If anything, it attracts potential subscribers because of how good HBO originals are and how much positive word of mouth they have :dies:

If anything the Max feels like it cheapens the brand

There are too many streaming services. I don’t know why people don’t see that as the issue :ahh:

Warner also approved AEW a 3rd show when the original AEW Dynamite is doing underwhelming numbers and aren't growing their audience. Warner is truly ran by idiots!

Isn’t HBO Max run by conservative Republicans now?

Discovery+ is the problem :thing:

It's the only reason I got it in the first place :deadbanana2:

who is the demographic they’re going for if they think hbo hurts the brand :rip:

They’re trying to protect the HBO brand from Max, not the other way around :rip:

The Discovery+ part of the brand is probably more damaging because it’s literally just associated with nature shows and home renovations. HBO is at least associated with quality.
