(ESL - English as a Second Language; non-native English speakers)

Do any of you feel like being on this forum has helped you with your English skills?

Next year will be my 10th year on this forum, which got me in kind of a reflective mood (:rip:) and one of the things I was thinking about was how on the majority of the forum we communicate in English, which is not my native language (as I assume it is not for many others either). I feel like being on here, reading so much stuff and communicating in another language must've helped me out with it over such a long time, which is why I was wondering, if any of you felt the same way.

Yes for sure, I learned a lot of slang and colloquial phrases on Twitter and here, and it did a lot of good for my writing and speaking skills

I'd never come across 95% of those words in any English textbook

Yeah, I totally agree with you guys. I kinda wonder what helped me more - school or being on here or on the internet in general.

It certainly is a good way to preserve language skills. I wouldn't say I "learned" so much here as it's mostly slang that isn't really needed in the offline world. Reading/watching interviews, watching shows and music had a much deeper impact on me to become a more "natural" speaker.
