dussel_06 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Oscar bait: Tar Elvis Women Talking The Fabelmans AQOTWF Elvis Blonde The Whale Babylon Basically any prestige drama, biopic, and movies about movies. Non-Oscar Bait EEAAO Top Gun Banshees of Inisherin (It's just a signature McDonough Film. For some reason the academy loves to nominate him similar to David Fincher and Christopher Nolan) Avatar (Typical blockbuster movie) Triangle of Sadness (Comedy are rare to the oscars and Cannes winners are mostly ignored)
Margaux Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 im just glad that cate, with her tired overacting, lost
ALA Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Can someone tell me why so many people think The Fabelmans is "amazing"...? it was perfectly fine but I don't get the praise
Kylizzle Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Academy seems to be moving towards feel-good movies with unique representation if CODA-EEAAO streak is to be believed.

CODA, EEAAO, Nomadland, Parasite, Green Book, The Shape of Water and Moonlight. All of these movies are about underrepresented groups and the nature of social class for the most part. A change is happening inside the Academy, for sure. Edited March 13, 2023 by Blade Runner

Kayseri Mantisi Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 was The Shape Of Water an Oscar bait? I feel like it was

The Power of The Dog traditional bait? I have to laugh.

The movie is not but certainly it was chosen by Netflix even before it came out as their Oscar bait movie. They pushed the lgbt narrative, the female director narrative and so on...so the campaign was build in that sense but movie is not and for this reason during the campaign it lost power and then won almost anything Edited March 13, 2023 by vale9001
Archetype Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Triangle of Sadness and Tar deserved wins tho. Both amazing movies
Jynx Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 All Quiet on The Western Front is Oscar bait which the academy said "yes" to. A boring World War whatever film we get every f*cking year. Still, nothing can beat the disgusting Oscar bait trash that was Green Book.

rihannafan Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) EEAAO is not oscar bait but it really fit the bill for the Oscars's desperate bid to remain relevant. Edited March 13, 2023 by rihannafan

Learning to count is so important, dear. so? the point is they still won so how is the academy "saying no to oscar-bait movie" as the op say?

Imagine thinking a movie released in March with the entire cast and crew were never ever nominated for an Oscar before as an Oscar bait.
