Bears01 Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) Every year, movies that nobody wants to see in theaters wins big across the board at the academy awards. Every now and then, a big mainstream movie that was well liked and well received by the GP wins big. That seems to be the case in 2023 with EEAO cleaning up in almost every major category. Is Hollywood changing its ways? Edited March 13, 2023 by Bears01
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) I don't agree with this. The whale was Oscar bait from the first screenshot. Edited March 13, 2023 by MadonnasBoyfriend

GraceRandolph Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 All Quiet was pretty baity, but the industry is clearly losing their taste for traditional bait based on how The Power of the Dog and Fabelmans both flopped.
GipJo Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Thank god, it they continue to reward those Oscar bait films, Hollywood might as well die at this point.
Digitalism Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 What do you mean? The whale and AQATWF are the movies that won most awards and they are pure oscar bait Also all of the acting wins are exactly what always wins at the oscars. Career awards
Forevermore. Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 I was gonna tell y'all to stop before someone calls EEAAO an 'Oscar bait' when it's literally the complete opposite of it (and actually INSANE to say when you look at some of the other movies it was up against), but I see I was too late
Soup in Teapot Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Not someone calls EEAAO an ‘Oscar bait’ with buttplug and dildo in it.

Career awards The Whale won 2 awards, and All Quiet won 4, how did they win “the most” when EEAAO won 7? Learning to count is so important, dear.

teresaguidice Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 EEAAO was just beloved and had a great narrative. all quiet (a classic oscars choice) beat top gun, avatar 2, wakanda forever, and other crowd pleasers in the technical categories EEAAO didn't win. wouldn't really consider it a sea change for the academy but EEAAO's power probably wouldn't be something anyone would've predicted a year ago.

I see what you mean about the Reddit thing, but it’s still an excellent film, annd easily the best since Parasite.
