As a Slavic European, I am actually confused why is this even a discussion  :confused:like there's nothing to consider or not consider, it's a fact

Girl you failed both Geography and History classes and it shows.

OT: Most of Russia’s population and economic activity in within the European continent. Historically Russia was also culturally integrated with other European states.

Just because Russia is committing atrocities, it does not change FACTS.

I majored in History, girl. The question is missing a lot of context. But yes, it is European but our present-day concept of Europe is more meshed with what is the EU, and therefore many wouldn't view it as part of Europe...even though part of it is geographically.

Eastern Europe

It’s more European than Greece or Turkey or Armenia

It’s Eurasian which is transcontinental like someone else already said. Strong Central Asian/Muslim cultural influences on it can’t be disregarded.

Russia is geographically split between Europe and Asia, that is a fact.  Culturally, it is very Eastern European as most of the population lives in the European half.  However, Russians like to separate themselves from the rest of Europe and take pride in this for some deranged reason, which just ends up hurting them economically and on the greater global social stage.  Politically, it *was* European until various revolutions and the USSR.  Post Cold-War, it has its own unique flavor of Soviet-influenced authoritarianism, neither European nor Asian.

Switzerland or the UK are also not in the EU and are part of Europe. Europe is not just Western Europe.

Iceland is isolated from the rest of the continent and is not in the EU. Still, it’s absolutely deranged to think it’s not an European country given its history.

I agree. Especially the mongol era had a profound impact on Russia's political system. Russia basically still functions as an empire that is lead by a "strong" man unopposed just like during Genghis Khan times.

We Asians don't wanna claim them too, so we're returning them to Europe
