I think perfect example of this is Femme Fatale. It has abysmal album sales worldwide and in the US its singles were pushed hard by radio but had low digital sales compared to other #1s, such is the case with Hold it against me. You can't even say well, people were buying the album cause that also wasn't happening, it didn't even cross 900k in the US even with all the payola.

It's overshadowed by Glitter flopping hard but it had very underwhelming stats for a 1999/2000 album (when sales peaked) though Butterfly was an underperformance. 

Blackout is another example. It performed terribly and was a massive decline commercially. 

 

Speak Now also fits the bill.

I thought Blackout is seen as a flop. Only the knee stans talk about how great it is and how influential it was and while I like the album and think it's a good album I know it didn't influence anything and it's mostly gays from that time period that listen to it.

It wasn't as big as Fearless (especially WW) but Taylor got her first million week opening,  2 top 10 hits, and the second best selling album of 2010 .

Well I know it was still moderately successful and yeah she was lowkey bigger in Japan (stats wise) than America for a time in the late 1990s.

I just mean that's it wasn't the smash that some stans exaggerate.

Taylor is a massive streaming force & she has the numbers to prove it, and those eras I mention were indeed a success if you look at them in a plainly commercial sense. But in the long term, it's not going to be 20 random album tracks that get remembered by people 10 or 20 years from now, it's the major single releases that stand the test of time, and Taylor's last eras have none of those. I can confidently say 20 years from now those eras will be as forgotten as if she had not released any music at all during that period, just the same way nobody remembers a lot of Mariah's top 10 hits from the 90s.

Was this thread made to just **** on Britney? Femme Fatale wasn’t a massive success and nobody claims it was but it absolutely was but it had 3 top ten hits. That’d be a success for anyone else. Gimme a break. And then people piling on with Blackout, Britney Jean, and Glory. Blackout’s quality is what gets praised, not how successful it was. It’s known as a cult classic because it flopped originally and became loved well after the fact because of her troubles at the time. & nobody claims Britney Jean & Glory as successful eras

The eras have cute US album sales... that's it, the singles flopped, the videos struggle to reach 100M and the streams are average... even disappointing.
