That doesn’t make said song a hit single.

Rihanna’s “KIB” BOMBED at #62 on the Hot 100 and is eligible for 4x platinum too, the same as the #4 peaking “MR”.

Beyoncé’s “End Of Time” peaked at #3 on the Bubbling Under Charts and is eligible for 2x platinum.

At the respective time, “4” had no substantial hits outside of, perhaps, “Love On Top”.

According to OGHs Gaga hasn't had a hit single since 2011 so i guess all of her albums since then :michael:

You missread my post, I was talking about the respective years those albums were released in. Best Thing I Never Had debuted in the 80s and climbed all the way up to #16, how is that not a hit? Not every song has to peak inside the top 10 to be a hit :toofunny3:

Just like BTINH, MR and LOT were hits aswell.

I Used To Know Her by H.E.R

Around 800k Units

Although Could've Been is nearly 3X Platinum now despite initially flopping

They were not hits, they just had good longevity.

Applause for example was a legit hit. Drunk in Love too

Hell even RTW is a classic now and it wasn’t a hit at the time.

That’s what made the 4 era so impressive at the time and in the long run.

Love On Top was a hit, it was #1 on Urban Radio Year End

The 1st two singles underperformed expectations.

Homecoming (2019)

A live album with no singles. It's not an "era" like the title asks for but that just makes its success all the more impressive.

Is this strictly Top 40 hits? Many Latin and Country acts and similar niche genre acts have Gold and Platinum albums without a mainstream Top 40 hit or would having hits in their primary formats count?

It became one of her best over time, but honestly in 2011 it was not a hit.

A hit song is something that stays in the top 10 for a long time and has general public recognition.

The track was successful but calling it a hit feels forced and unauthentic.

I dont think it was marketed to be a Pop Hit in 2012, so it was a hit

Run The World bombed across the board initially to be the lead single and Best Thing I Never Had did meh as being the Pop crossover ballad

On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart it was a huge hit and spent six consecutive weeks at #1 and was the #1 on the Year-End Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

I understand you mean the Hot 100, but within the genre it was it did incredibly well.
