Papa Don’t Preach was da number one song in da world in 1986. Don’t disrespect it’s classic status

We're not living in 1986 anymore though. Ask anyone under the age of 30 if they know PDP.

Why don't you do the honors since you know everything?

Go ahead.

In 2023 it's not a classic. Poll people and see how many people can name it as a Madonna song.

It's 2023 and it is a classic. Streaming isn't the be-all-end-all parameter for classics. Especially when this whole metric was not even widely accessible until almost 30 years after the release of these songs :rip: Madonna sold nearly 60 million pure copies of her greatest hits albums.. that's like double what Gaga has sold in pure in total to this day. It's obvious that to multiple generations, no matter the age - these songs had an impact and thus are classics.

Holiday

Lucky Star

Borderline

Like a Virgin

Material Girl

Crazy For You

Into The Groove

Papa Don't Preach

La Isla Bonita

True Blue

Open Your Heart

Live To Tell

Like a Prayer

Express Yourself

Vogue

Take A Bow

Ray of Light

Frozen

... are all worthy classic contenders and you're delusional if you think otherwise. :rip:

A hit song =/= a bona fide classic. Bona fide classics are songs that stand the test of time and are evergreen, just because a song was a noteworthy hit for it's time doesn't mean it's a bona fide classic, and a song could underperform for its time and be recognized as a classic later. This thread is about CLASSICS, which Madonna has plenty of, but you can't just call every hit a classic. Should we consider every hit that Gaga, Taylor, Britney and others get a classic? Most artists only have one or two songs that the general public at large universally associates them with and are still consumed.

and what makes you so sure that in 2050 the casual GP teen folk will know every word to Poker Face or Born This Way? :gaydonnacat1:

This set up. Even Liddos can't defend this one.

In Madonna's first 15 years, she's had these classics:

Holiday

Lucky Star

Like A Virgin

Material Girl

Into the Groove

Crazy For You

Papa Don't Preach

La Isla Bonita

Like A Prayer

Express Yourself

Vogue

Etc...

I didn't call every hit a classic, though. :gaydonnacat1: If I did that list would have been x3 longer.

:rip: If PDP isn't a classic, then half the songs you listed by Gaga certainly aren't.

As if a site full of delusional Monsters are going to admit to many Madonna songs being classics  - like Madonna or her fans need their validation anyway. lmao

:bibliahh: Oh my god, I'm so embarrassed for you. Vogue wasn't "just a hit in the 90's".

You've certainly got a lot to learn.
