When it comes to vocals, this site often criticizes popstars like Britney, Madonna, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift and keeps saying that they have no vocal talent. Their fans will try to defend them and say that their voice is unique, sassy or emotive.

 

What about songwriters? Certain musicians make their own music, but it doesn't mean that is good and you simply find their writing skill overrated or lacking. Which artists that write their own music have no talent in that regard?

Beyonce. She had to hire a truckload of writers and Renaissance lyrics still turn out a cringe

Taylor writes like a 13 year old. All those singers who edit a song by a word or 2. They are editors not songwriters. There’s also diff type of writers, some write Melodie’s while others lyric

Demi lovato they are talented overal in fact probably more so than her peers like Miley, selena and Ariana but their music hasn’t always been the best or relatable. I think that’s why Demi could’ve never reached their full potential as a music artist although I feel Demi did amazing with their last album it just sucks that it didn’t get the attention it deserves. Demi has released some amazing music but they also released some really horrible songs on their albums. They’re  peers like Selena and Ariana aren’t known to be songwriters but they’re discography is some of the strongest among pop girls in the last 10 years and it’s all because they know how to pick a good songs for there albums and pick a good team of writers and producers. 
 

 

This is quite petty, to be honest. There's always going to be a more skilled singer, dancer, or songwriter but to say they're talentless? Nah 

 

You might not like a certain style of writing, fair enough but to go that far and say they're talentless? Nope, can't agree with that.

Taylor Swift. Her songs are basic highschool love poems and yes that includes folklore and evermore. She just made the words sound expensive so it seemed mature but it’s still the same **** just packaged differently.

 

She isn’t grounded enough to have the same earthy songwriter style like Fiona, Joni, Kate etc

Damn, not Justin. I wouldn't say he's talentless. Yeah, maybe he regressed but he's not bottom of the barrel. 

 

Plus he wrote Blow, Rocket and Partition for Bey. Rehab for Rih, Love Sex and Magic for Ciara and a couple of songs for Madonna.

 

With Justin, you can immediately tell when he's written on a song. He should definitely branch out in terms of content instead of the same old love trope he clings to.

Taylor writes for her core audience, she feeds them what they're capable to digest. Let's not pretend your average Taylor Swift is versed enough to know great songwriters like the aforementioned.

Talentless is a bit extreme, pretty much all singers that are also songwriters have some questionable songs and great ones as well.

Basically stuck in perpetual adolescence and her music still hasn't managed to go past the jilted lover trope, for the most part, while actually regressing at some points because she's become even more childish with time. Incredible to think that she's in her mid-30s with the mindset of a 12 year old child, perhaps a therapist is needed at this point.

she has many great songs with great songwriting.  I think you just only heard Me! and assumed that all songs are written this way

Interesting because I didn't have Me(h)! in mind, but Taylor's songwriting shines most when she's telling a story: Begin Again for instance. These moments, compared to the rest of her material, are far and in between. She rarely has moments of brilliance as a songwriter, and this being the only area she shines makes her fans overrate her abilities. Sure she can write a catchy tune, but so could a lot of writers who don't get nearly the same level of acclaim while doing the same thing she does. There's little difference between Katy for instance and Taylor, and yet the critics rip to shreds the material of one than they would the other.
