Getting the LA experience at a discounted rate?

My partner and I came back from California yesterday evening, and I'm in love with this state lol

There were a few things that can be refined, but I am also pretty bougie when it comes to vacationing to CA specificall lol

For one, I want to travel first-class round-trip to LAX, but not nearly for $1700-2000. My partner has the United Club Mileage Plus card and already uses his points for upgrades (for example, we flew united plus economy last time), so travel credits are kind of out of the question: we simply don't have enough to use towards a first-class upgrade. I would get a Mileage Plus card, but truth be told, I don't travel as frequently as my partner. Any tips/tricks for cheaper first class tickets? Perhaps maybe flying into another airport in CA that's drivable to LA would be cheaper for first-class?

Moreover, are there any discounts on hotels in LA? Possibly there's hotels that are not really "in" LA, but are drivable and could be cheaper. We usually stay at Bonvoy hotels since my boyfriend is a Bonvoy member.

I guess what I'm asking is if there's any shortcuts to staying at at least 4-star hotels and upgrades to first-class that don't include paying for everything on face-value in LA/LA-adjacent California.

For reference, we really enjoyed the Venice Beach/Malibu-part of LA, as well as Calabasas and Santa Barbara.

Not a bad idea! Any areas where renting an Airbnb would be cheap-ish?

I've been to New York (really, Manhattan/NYC, specifically). It's definitely nice, but I vastly prefer LA, California/LA-adjacent California.

I would try somewhere in the Valley. You would have to drive but somewhere like Sherman Oaks, Studio City, North Hollywood would still be close enough to most places you would want to go.

As for flying, LAX sucks up the majority of the gravity for flights. The best deals(and fewest connections) are going to be leaving and coming from there as it is by far the main airport not just for the LA metro but most of Southern California(especially international flights). San Diego, Santa Ana, and Burbank are all more convenient but you are paying a premium to fly through them.

Not sure since I'm not from here. But I mean, decent people exist. Yes, there are more indecent people than not, but that's just the lottery/slot-machine you play when it comes to dating.

For airport, checkout if Long Beach or Burbank. Not only are they sometimes cheaper, but LAX is a headache with all the construction right now.

You could stay in North Hollywood/the valley

Just keep an eye out on Google flights for the best flights, have an open mind for dates. Always use incognito mode when browsing for flights or hotels. Booking.com does a great job at hotel reservations, pick the proper filters (4 stars and up, distance, budget, etc) I always travel and this is usually what I do. It depends on where you're flying from but you can get a fast no layover economy flight for cheap. I'll never fly business within the US because it's just a few hours and makes no sense, unless it's via points. I've recently flown business out of the US with Turkish and it was fun but that was like 12 hour flight.

Airbnbs are hit and miss nowadays and from my experience the price difference is not so big for a decent place to stay.

We actually got diverted to Las Vegas Friday night (due to LAX weather), and maybe it was because I wasn't in LA that evening, but I found Las Vegas incredibly boring. I don't gamble. I don't drink. And there's no one performing in Las Vegas I'd want to see right now. But, hey, if you like Las Vegas, great!
