Miley hasn't had a hit this big since the Bangerz era. Do the GP stan the song because of Miley or would they had stan it if it was sung by another pop girl?

Probably not. The song fits Miley's voice perfectly. No one else would've been able to pull it off nearly as well.

I think the narrative around Miley & Liam’s very publicized relationship and the whole independence that Miley herself represents helped fuel it so no.

I don't find the song particularly interesting, and it's still perplexing to me why it's smashing as hard as it is, but I think Miley's unique vocals carries it for the most part so I'd say no. 

80% its success is thanks to the Miley/Liam relationship drama so I doubt it could've been as successful with another pop girl. 

Rihanna would be an interesting option to hear.. she can pull off anything

 

but its a really Miley owned song.. her voice fits it so good

Nope. This is definitely a "right place, right time" thing where everything lined up perfectly to smash this hard. It's not an effortless hit song you could sell to anyone.

I don't see it, the song just fits Miley, her raspy way of singing/the nostalgic tone, it just sounds perfect with her
