dussel_06 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) I still consider myself a christian to be honest. But I don’t go to church anymore. I have a personal relationship with God and still pray everyday before I go to sleep. I have dealt with so many problems in past and I take refuge in prayer. There are lots of moments that I think God have helped me. I don’t believe in churches anymore especially the big ones. But I have a childhood friend who is a now a pastor in a small rural church and I still give money/donation to his church. Edited February 28, 2023 by dussel_06

stjosephprey4us Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I’m not a Christian in the strict sense but I don’t think anyone alive on earth 1) knows exactly what “God” (or whatever you want to call it) wants, 2) knows the exact nature of what is “right” and what is “wrong” and, 3) has a say in who goes to “heaven” or “hell”. We are all just humans here trying to make sense of existence and in the grand scheme of things, (I’m guessing) loving someone of the same sex isn’t high on God’s priority list

There are lots of moments that I think God have helped me. Basically, this. Although, I will go to church service once in a blue moon with my grandmother if I go and visit her on a Sunday. She’s getting really old and I can tell it gives her peace to go with her grandchildren. I have also still gone to the church from time to time and sat alone and prayed (during non-worship hours) if I was particularly depressed or sad and needed an escape.
Helios Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 You might wanna check your statewide sex offender registry and see how many straight men are on there before asking the gays if they think they are going to hell.
popmusicisdead Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 i'm Catholic so everyone is going to hell as far i'm concerned.
smartalek22 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 No but I believe in the universe and manifestation
Relampago. Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I’m a gay Catholic, I find peace in prayer and it’s what’s allowed me to remain close with my family, and ironically have them accept my sexuality and partner. I’m heavily critical of the church as an institution and never use my religion as a reason to impose my beliefs on anyone. It’s just such a strong part of my cultural upbringing and has been a strong foundation in my life. One day I’ll probably move towards a different religion, one that would actually openly accept the LGBTQ community, but for now, I’m find remaining Catholic.
A.R.L Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 This should be asked to all religious people here and not only Christians.
terrorblade Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 isn't the Christian stance more anti-gay sex than anti-gay
JustHoran Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I was Christian and even use to go to church, however I've never been uber religious and I no longer go to church. I also am more "spiritual" now I guess, but still believe in God and Heaven. And no, I don't believe we are going to Hell.

Dolce Vita Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 idk anymore but the religious childhood trauma is REAL and still lingers in my life
Into The Void Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I'm a gay Christian and no were not going to hell
CrimsonX Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Yes tbh. It’s why I’m done with guys. I’m not going to hell for some musty boy.
getBusy Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I grew up Catholic and went to church every single Sunday until i was 18 (i hated it soooo much). After that, my parents told me I was free to do whatever I wanted, so I never went back and immediately declared myself an atheist
AvadaKedavra Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Yes, everyone except me, because I play this song every day
MadonnasBoyfriend Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I'm atheist but grew up being forced to church so I like to blame God for when annoying things happen but I belive big bang theory
JustLikeHoney Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I don't believe gays are going to hell. If you read the bible fro start to finish it's a book the evolves with the time the books that are in it are written. In Genesis God blessed Abraham and Sarah marriage and they are half brother and sister. Then in the later half of the bible it condemns incest. Slavery was fine and oppressing women was fine. The problem with the bible is that it stopped being a living book. It ended. The morals that we have today are not in the book. I don't think that is what the original writers or God intended. No I don't think gays are going to hell.
zasderfght Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Being a former Christian, I can relate to feelings of betraying God, being scared of hell, disappointing family, etc., and if you're going through this now, as long as you have a stable, supportive unit (that could be family/friends), and you won't be prosecuted for being gay where you live & you genuinely feel safe, you're going to be okay! I suppose being an atheist now has absolved my fears of going to hell. Part of why I "left the church," so to speak, was because of how anti-gay a large portion of the Christian community/culture is, but also because I truly just don't believe there is a deity that existed before us, currently exists, and will continue to exist forever, and that there is hell, heaven, purgatory, or some sort of reincarnation. Science tells us we have an expiration date, we haven't been able to revive people who've died, so they can inform us on what life is like after we die, our organs stop working and we start decaying after we die-- that much we know. With life being as finite and temporary as it is, it's easier said than done, but learn to enjoy it. Obviously, this is hard for people who are struggling financially, have chronic pain (which I suffer with, but I've learned to manage it; however, there are more severe cases than me) or some sort of debilitating mental/physical setback, or completely lack stability in work/healthcare/support systems. I would challenge you to live your life as you want to live it-- given that the life you want to live doesn't harm you or others in the process. And perhaps seek therapy. It will help with a lot of self-doubt, potentially low self-esteem, and self-love and confidence. Have people in your life that will support you for who you are. My life was at its scariest and at its worst when I surrounded myself by a bunch of religious extremists, anti-LGBTQ people, or far-right Republicans that would make DeSantis blush. If you can, cut out people that are going to be unsupportive of your life.
