yep, this is what it was like when committees existed and they could be easily bribed (see swift's three AOTY wins). now that committees don't exist, it's much more fair, virtually incorruptible, and more represented of the public and what people actually like. this year's grammys was the perfect example of this. everyone got the grammy they deserved and those whose albums were propped up by fake PR hype lost while those who actually connected with the public won.

some industry insider guy with a laughably terrible EDM song made an account on a Grammy voting website and basically begged hundreds of Recording Academy members to vote for his song, and he actually ended up being nominated in the Dance/Electronic category because of it during the peak of EDM in the early 2010s.

Very true, every Grammy win before this year should come with an asterisk, or better yet be revoked altogether.

Nothing worse than people born into wealth with no talent spending their lives and their money trying to convince people they do.

What was worse (at least in my opinion) is that this was right after the Dance field began to snub pop artists to become almost exclusively EDM/DJ-oriented in its nominations.  So much for protecting the integrity of the genre lololol

Too bad he didn't win. That would be a more interesting scenario.

Anyway, he was probably nominated because people don't know much or don't care much about EDM back in 2012 or something. And some voters feel obligated to fill the blank so they just put the ones who promotes. It's a popularity contest after all.

Probably still happening today to lesser known genres like americana, traditional, spoken book and the like.

So you’re saying almost all of Gaga’s Grammy wins are the result of corruption since they occurred prior to the elimination of committees, interesting

Al Hauser, an unknown, made a shitty pop song, campaigned directly to Dance members of the academy via the networking service, Grammy365.  
 

A similar happened with an American Roots singer the prior.
